newbie here....... great forum....

I have a 2000 year model Chevy Crewcab "3500" with a 6.5 TD, purchased at a county auction as a "project truck". It has 78000 miles on it. one head and the intake have been removed, the shop forman told me it had a rattle in the upper part of the engine, and said the Chevy dealer did the "tear down" and told the county supervisor it needed a new cam and lifters to the tune of 3 -4 thousand dollars,so they put the truck in the county auction "AS IS". Well me being the glutton for punishment that I am.............. Bought it :)

The debate is weather to re-build it, or replace it. I did find a early 90's 6.5, sounds real good, has no blow by, fellow that has it says it has 50-60 thousand miles on it, and says it is a GM Target engine that was dealer installed 5-6 years ago. It does apear to be as represented, BUT would it work in the 2000 truck? maybe just use the "block & heads? use the late model IP so the ecm would work?

Whatda ya think?
