I found this tonight and thought some of you fellas doing frame repair/modifications may find it useful. It's for newer model years, but I'm sure much of the reinforcement and max heat information still applies. I know it's been talked about from time to time, but the recommended way here is to joint a frame with a reinforced butt joint as opposed to an angle or Z.

Doing mechanical work for the body shop across the street, i've changed ALOT of frames over the years. I've seen them section a bunch too, but i tell you what, the new Ford frames are a pita to straigten. we usually change them, it results in far less labor since we usually end up removing the motor and tranny anyway to access the frame.
