Radiator overflow tank

My 1992 - 1996 style Radiator overflow tank split on the bottom. Luckily I had a spare in the bed that I took from my parts truck in the fall. But it was cracked on the bottom in the same spot!!

I just took one of the tanks, filled the bathtub with warm water and went to town cleaning it with dish soap and a scotch brite pad (do NOT tell the missus that I did that or I am in the dog house!!) I dried it off, sanded the area around the crack (about 3 inches all around it) and then put the JB weld to it until I can buy a new one.

Is this a common thing with these trucks?

We don't have the same tank, but mine is split down the seam where the two halves are molded together...

I was wondering why there is always antifreeze on the drivers side tire when I stop.

JB Weld is some mighty good stuff!!!

Don't expect a very long-lasting repair with JB-Weld or anything else on that type of plastic.

After a LOT of practice, some success can be had by using one of those plastic welding guns, but it is an art not easily learned.


A plain old anti-freeze jug with the hose poked through a hole in the lid makes a very good temporary replacement.

Of all the other fors truck I've driven/parted out, there wasn't any problem. It' was just the two diesel tanks I had. Maybe it was the freezing cold temperatures and the vibrations of the diesel that caused it to fail.

That was one of my thoughts when I was standing beside the truck this morning with "that look" on my face lol.

I just JB welded it until I can get my hands on one on here or from LMC truck.

However, I JB welded the upper tank seam on my radiator when I had my plow gear (the winter before last) and it's still leak free and solid! but it is also on a metal surface and not plastic like you mentioned.

The one on my F250 was cracked in the same spot as well. I bought a new one from NPD for like $35-40.
