Pulley bearings

I just rebearing'd the 3 steel pulleys on the pass side of the engine in my F450 trying to cure a belt chirping noise ($3 each)...The belt is new also. The alternator looks to be almost new but it has a little squeak in it. Has anyone had any luck changing the bearing in the plastic A/C delete dummy pulley??? I also wonder if the bearing is getting bad in the vacuum pump....My buddy had one fail in his vaccum pump this week....I should by a can of belt dressing to see if that helps at all. Just replacing the 3 bearings took about 70% of the noise away. I have 2 brand new A/C dummy pulley's from 07 ISB Cummins that I brought home from work ( I put a/c in both new trucks)...I could make them fit with a little fabrication and the pulley is steel too....I might need a shorter belt to try them.

I had a belt chirp start after I replaced the alternator. Belt dressing only made it worse and actually ended up ussing armorall and after a few times it went away

i had to put 4 washers under each A/C compressor bolt.not the way i like to do things but after 7 belts from 7 parts stores that were all too long including the belt off the old motor i had to do something.was drivin me nuts!!!

you ------C A N T change the bearing in those plastic idler pulleys---theres a crimp around them!!!!! ive tried everything under the sun!! so---i pull the seal off with a pick--on the inside of the seal--the grease flows to the outer portion----try not ot nick it ----but if you do--it wont bother unless you really mess it up---and then put one pump of grease in there out of a manual grease gun---no more--itll force itself out---

i would not recommend belt dressing, it makes the belts sticky but only for a short time then they get a varnish on them.

I might try smoothing off the pulleys and see what happens, it sounds like it's coming from the VP pulley....99% sure it's a belt noise....It was there with the old belt too.

Update -the noise is still there. It goes away if I spray the belt with armour-all but it comes back in a short time. I'm starting to think it could be the bearing in the vacuum pump so I pulled the VP from my spare engine to swap it and see what happens. The only think left is the dummy A/C delete pulley.

My belt is also making a noise, I sprayed WD40 on it and the noise went away, also if any kind of liquid gets on the belt the noise goes away. I don't have a belt driven VP, mine is on the fender.

Normally I would say liquids = belt but my belt is brand new and I think the liquid is making the VP pulley slip thus eliminating the noise for a short period until it dry's off.

my first noise was on the 96 after I replaced the alt and the second one was on the 93 right after I put a new belt on. It still makes some noise everynow and then and seems like its temperature related so I just squirt it down with the armorall and it last long enough for me not to worry about it anymore. I still say its the belt but hopefully you find it either way
