I'm with you on the "clean it out at home", but I used muratic acid diluted two to one with water. I layed the radiator on the ground with the ports upward, fill the radiator with the diluted solution, and leave it for 10-15 minutes depending on how much it bubbled/outgases. Neutralize with backing soda and flush/rinse with water.

All that being said: anybody have a chance to look at the Mishimoto next to the Champion? I just wonder if they are heavier or better constructed that the Champions.

I would run a plastic tanked radiator in a gasser all day long, and I would probably run one in an IDI before I spent 8-9 times the price on an all brass version, but I wouldn't expect it to last forever. Most gasser radiators don't hold half as much coolant as an IDI. Go fill up an IDI radiator with water and you will find it's pretty heavy. Now put it in an old truck with very questionable vibration isolators and shake the **** out of it with a 20ish:1 compression to ignition engine and rock hard suspension.

Ran clr at 50/50, dang near useless, run it full strength!
Fixin to run pool acid at 50/50, this usually cuts a lotta stuff.
Followed by sodium hydroxide at some percentage if not clean... last time i did this one I dumped a one # can in a gallon of h2o and ran it thru the system.
NOTE add the lye TO THE WATER or you will get something like an eruption of ugly stuff!
Fu*kk*in corporate chimerica shurly has no issue with disgraceful behavior!
$2400 will buy an complet idi

btw my 93 rad held at 2-2.5 gallons

I like your radiator recipe: sounds like a slow cooked IDI jambalaya! :p

Now to see how it tastes :popcorn

the clr shinned up the clean brass read next to useless....
the pool acid in the past has done ALOT to clean em up.
Then the lye should sweeten the soup! :Thumbs Up

So the lye showed up first, I ran #2 in 2.5 gallons h2o as I was doing it cold. normal is a 1\2# a gallon @150*+
This soaked for an hour and did work well.
Ran a second batch the next day and had almost 90% gone.
Ran a 50\50 muratic solution next and dang near 90-95% like new.
Neutralizing in vinager now, rinse out tomorrow and see how I did...
Got 1 more gallon of ad left in case...

Got it out and pulled the 5er up the hill to the lake, I could see the heat dissipation happening, this definitely helped.
Somebody said statt earlier.
And yep the statt looked *****, it was opening about 5\32" rather than the + -.250 someone quoted.
stuffed a new statt in it.gunna test it out later.
still chasing a new egt issue without any changes in fueling...

I would love to know what the rubber ring is for.
and for you guys without one, here is a 58k original check ball in the statt housing(note the square drive hole, these might have deen tapped.) There's a tech 101 for replacement here somewhere.
