would it be possible to put a guage in between the ip and injecotor(maybe one on each side) to see the the ip is work properly?

Would this guage tell yuou anything about the ip?

Anything is possible, but when you consider that the action of the gauge taking a reading would be absorbing a portion of the injection stroke out of the pump , the gauge would cause your timing to go all out of whack and most likely make the thing run like trash.

Not only would it cause the timing issue, but it would be swinging back and forth with every pulse of 1800psi +. Unless you got one with a memory feature (mechanical needle that shows highest reading) it would be hard to see exactly what it got up to. As for one on each side, you'd have to put one on all 8 lines, since there isn't really a left or right bank to check in the IP.

Actually we do this all the time. It's called an "eyeball gauge" and we usually use two, unless you've been rather unfortunate, and only own one or one that works. Used in conjunction with a 5/8" wrench, the eyeball will observe if fuel is leaking out of the loosened injector cap. ;Sweet This confirms proper operation of the injection pump. It does NOT however, confirm timing, compression, or ignition heat.

You would be better off putting a fuel pressure gauge after the lift pump. A truck can run with a bad lift pump but can destroy the IP. If you have a fuel pressure gauge between the lift pump and IP you will know if your IP is going to crap out because your lift pump crapped out. If the lift pump pressure is good and the truck runs then the IP can assumed to be good.

It isn't accurate because the volume of fluid is so small the gauge wont respond correctly.
