..... but love the Ocean.
You guys and this forum is the best...
No, @mightykp ....... YOU'RE the best.......but the Emerald Coast is way better, our beaches rival any in the world........ you can walk barefoot on Destin, Navarre, or Pensacola.......pure white sand and the water is just beautiful......I don't go to the beach but when I do, I marvel at it. I wish I could ride my 3 wheeler on the national seashore, lol..... stupid seaoats!

Edit: sorry, my opinions are slipping out again....

Pismo Beach 'used' to allow us to drive on the beach AND the dunes to the East of the beach. This was back in the 1970s and 1980s. We would go camping with dune buggies and Jeeps. Racing up the dunes but only 25mph on the beach. California closed Pismo to ALL traffic some time ago...

That would be fun. There's some places on the Atlantic side that you can drive on the beach, but we got seaoats and turtle eggs to worry about......

I might be wrong, but isn't there still a beach in CA that allows OHVs?

The best beach riding is probably in Oregon around Coos Bay.

"Coos Bay" makes me think of the "Haircut song" by Ray Stevens. Just up from coos Bay Oregon, been toppin' trees, quite possibly the toughest man alive......lol

Hell the modern side by sides are bigger than a midsized truck, and cost just as much or more!

I live about 20 minutes away from Pismo. There is a small section of the beach you can still drive on, but its mostly just an entrance to get to the dunes to the south. Most people still call it the Pismo Dunes, but it is more accurately called Oceano Dunes. either works. They have closed large sections of the Dunes and beach for a bird called the snowy plover. it builds its nest on the ground and gets run over. There is an even larger fight trying to close it completely. That has been raging for decades and will continue for a long time. They have cut the area down so much it gets pretty crowded, but it is till fun to drive out there and have a campfire. I stay out of the dunes area. Too many idiots get drunk and drive out there.

I'm the same way. There's dunes in middle America, just not beach dunes. The dunes by Waldo, CO would be fun to see one time. Even if I didn't ride anything on them but just looked at them. Then there's also the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, also in Colorado. I believe that there's some hiking trails there, but motor vehicles aren't allowed off of the marked roads. On the other end of the spectrum, I have tentative plans to go to Glamis with my step brother and some of his friend in a few years. I don't want to go to California, but I'll do it for the chance to hit Glamis. That's a once in a lifetime trip for me.

Never been to Glamis but have heard great things. That has a lot more area to ride than Pismo. Certain areas get crowded and there are always idiots in a crowd, but there should be enough room out there to avoid most of them and still have a great time.

As far as California goes, it is an amazing state. some of the most beautiful scenery out there. If you like mountains, go to the Sierras, there are hundreds of miles of dirt trails you can take your 3 wheelers on, go see the giant sequoias, go see Joshua Tree, go drive up highway 1 through Big Sur. There is so many fun and incredible things to see and do, just stay away from LA and San Francisco. Yeah there are things to do there, but its not worth it. The cities are dirty, people are rude, in SF your car is likely to get broken into. Other parts of the state the people are more normal and friendly. California is also huge! very easy to avoid the cities and crazies.

I've seen that most people seem to stay in a few areas. I'm hoping to get out in the dunes and away from the crowds. No holidays either!

I'll just stick to the southeast corner. It's DEFINITELY not worth even getting close to the big cities.

The joke would be on them. I don't have a car. :joker:
