Porting turbo housing

I can't imagine how you would do it, even if it was a good idea. The exhaust housing is basically a slot with hot gases coming out of it. If you try to port it, you might mess up the symetry of it. :dunno About the fanciest thing I read about people doing is getting a center cartridge with ball bearings instead of sleeve bearings.

So why is the housing even divided at all? You would be able to flow more air through a bigger open area right? Possibly an air velocity thing? I'm not planning to mess with it, but I would like to understand a little more about it.

Have you ever played with a can of compressed air and a computer fan? That little experiment teaches you a lot about why the turbo is the way it is IMO.
