Welcome to the forum. More information is needed to really help you here. Smoking the starter is telling me you cranked on it too long or it was ready to go when you got it. So its been replaced. Are the batteries fully charged. Was the starter a gear reduction type starter or direct drive. Is the engine cranking faster than you can count the rpm. What level is the fuel tanks at. Anything near 1/4 tank of fuel usually will not suck to the engine. Thats because the suction head commonly known as the shower head breaks off in the tanks. Then the last 1/4 tank of fuel can't be sucked out. The front tank is an easy fix but the rear tank requires dropping the tank or removing the bed. Not fun when all you have to do is keep the tanks more than 1/4 full. Have you checked if the mechanical fuel pump is pushing fuel to the filter.

Welcome to the OB.
Do yourself a favor and get a remote starter button. When you have trouble starting, you can start it from the outside and see whats going on, and bleed air from the filter while trying to start. There is a schrader valve on the filter to do that, the one with the valve cap on it, pic below. Hook the button up to the start relay on the fender, one clip on the large post, pull the 90* connector off on the side of the start relay, hook the other button clip on there. If you need to stop it, just pull the wire off the IP fuel solenoid (FSS).

Valve cap? Mine's never had one. Well, off to the Ford Stealer to order one of those....... :D

We now return you to your regularly scheduled threading.

Ya don't need one, just keeps the dirt out, same as a tire valve cap. Auto stores have them in a 4 pack, fancy Chrome or just plain plastic.

I don't get why they don't have a 6 pack for us drw guys.
But I guess I'll just have two spares.

Didn't some earlier filter heads not have the shraeder?
Or was that something else I'm thinking of?
