playing around last weekend

we went to the lake, left friday about 10:30pm, after working on a camper trailor for bout 5 hours. pulled great and not a single new problem! it is about a hundred mile hike there and i kinda flogged it all the way , i didnt wanna get there any later than i already was, so i got there drove around all weekend and back on less than one full tank. spent 100 bucks filling up and ran off my rear tank, which is missing the boot on the pickup and will only burn 3/4 of a tank, switched to the front tank bout 20mi from home and didn't hardly move the neadle from full! very happy with her! unfortunately only took one good pic of the truck this weekend but here it is

Haha, owned! Really tho, tractorman, he's right on that - if you wanna do stuff like that and not have to mess with the axle every time you do need to install some loooong breather hoses on those axles - Bronco guys seem to like sticking the actual breathers in the engine bay, tho they're much much shorter in wheelbase so it makes things easier.

Yes sir...... '82 F150 4x4, Wheeled it a lot through streams and never gave it a second thought. Stripped the splines in the spider gears on a 9" rear. Fluid looked like MUD instead of oil Got lucky and found a new axle for $300

I was doing it for the girls too, had to cross a stream to get to our favorite place to park out in the woods Ahhhh the fun you have when yer young, dumb and reckless.... It was worth $300

Better to just plug the axle vent for the duration of the dunking. That will keep presure trapped in the axle and help prevent water intrusion through the seals. Although if the axle is hot, that wouldn't do either.

yup because when the hot axle hits the cold water it pulls the air (or water) in past the seals if it is not vented well to the atmosphere.

i was surprized at how much water was in my jeep axles from playing in the water. or coarse when you have it pushing over your hood and coming in the door sills these things can happen.

YUP! on all accounts of draining the rear

Dang! I thought I was rough with my 4 wheeler All my vents run to the radiator bracket.
