plastigauging...

what IDIoit couldnt figgure this out?

would you do this process with bolts, or the stud and girdle you intend to use??

Yeah is there any chance that the girdle would hold things slightly different thus showing a slightly different plastigage reading? Maybe.

I would use bolts. My thought is bolted up cold not spinning 3600 rpm it won't matter. I'm definitely no expert though.

yes plastigauge!

main & rod journals checked, and dimensionaly ok, rods checked and good to go.
bearings are .010/.010 under.

after you measure all you can measure how do you check your work?
plastigauge does the trick!
easy and effective.
always "measure twice and cut once"

there are tolerances in bearings too, they are never perfect.
ive never mic'd new bearings...

if the plastigauge calls it good, you know youre golden.
better finding out now than while youre running it!!!

Just yanking your chain. I've used it too but there are those that frown upon it. It's like most other tools. It has its uses and if used properly, it works pretty well.

You know it's more work and more time, but if your OCD is anything like mine, you'll do it right.

he claims that you only need to tighten the 2 inner bolts to achieve the correct bearing clearances.

think im gonna plastigauge it 3 times, to see if infact it does make a difference


i will post results for the variables below.

Now now...I said you should be able to get satisfacory results with two bolts...hell go step further...do on main inner two one outter two.

All uou are dojng is affirming what you know...bottom line perfect world...studs girdle correct sequence....I await uour results.

maybe the "claim" wording coulda been different, hell i was/am sleep deprived... you know what i ment

Bolts will be fine for taking measurements. You will get more change in the dynamics of a running engine to worry about bolt vs stud for plastigauge measurements.
