I don't have a picture, but I do have the memory of driving our 83....

2-HI
4-HI
N
4-LO

Straight forward and back, no pull or push one way or the other. Straight back from dash to seat.....

Know which t-case you have? NP205, NP208? Would only be a NP203 if it's full-time 4x4, drive slugs in the front hubs, but being an 80+ those are the only 2 that were offered.

Nope, 100% certain our 83 was shifted as posted. Drove that truck fro many years, and since it was a Manual Transfer / Manual Lockouts it got shifted at least once a month for maintenance.

I had a Durango and it shifted like yours did, but the transfer cases may have been different, it was in the middle of the Bullnose run, but 83 was a change year for the trucks. Some minor cosmetic changes, add the diesel, etc.........

If its diesel, it should be a BW 1345 or 1356. If thats the case, it will shift like Scott said.

Look at the t-case. If it's cast iron, it's a New Process and shifts like the pic I linked to. If it's aluminium with lots of very noticeable ribs, then it's a Borg & Warner and shifts as such (previously mentioned above by others).

Could be aluminum np208. I had one of those from a bullnose diesel in my 89. Had a big circular disc on it that said np208.

Good catch! All the New Process cases I've seen, Dodge and Chevy included, have a nice round tag on the rear of the case ID'ing them. Most of the time they are found very dirty.
