Ouestion about rim's and tire's

Looking at the manufactures info for my winters, General Grabber AT2's, the 235/85R16 is 31.7" tall, the 265/75R16 is 31.6. Height is pretty much identical, just the 265 is a wider tire.

Mathematically there is a 1 cm difference in height between a 265/75/16 and a 235/85/16 tire, or .393 inches. Realistically they are all over the place as not all tire manufacturers are very accurate in their measurements. My Toyo 265's are bigger than my wildcat 265's of the exact same tire markings. Just different brands.

I think your math is off a little. My figures say that the tire height difference is 2 mm (.0787), not 1 cm.

By my understanding of the tire specs 235/265 is the tread width. 75/85 is the percentage of the tread width that the tire wall height is supposed to be (aspect ratio). So, 265/75 should give us a product of 198.75 mm high sidewall, 235/85 is 199.75 high. Since there is a sidewall all around the rim/wheel, you have 2 mm difference total per tire.

Well, 198.75 cm would be a very large tire... I forgot about the mm part.
So yes your math is correct. Thanks for catching that.
