oil squirters, removal, cleaning, reinstall

just got my block to the bare.
I removed all oil squirters so I can hone the block.
gonna throw them in the solvent tank and clean them.
making sure there all clear.

I noticed that there were no lock washers on the bolts,
should I install some when I put them back in? loc-tite perhaps?
I wouldn't want any of them rattling loose on me.


if im not mistaken, these are to add additional oil to the wrist pins, correct?

anything we can do to them to enhance flow?
or should I leave them alone?

looks like installing them before the pistons and rods will be the easiest,
or should I install them after?
wouldn't want to bend one by mistake.

I'm not 100% certain on the rest of the questions since I haven't had the pleasure of taking the bottom end apart on an IDI yet. However, as I understand it, the primary purpose for the oil squirters is to cool off the bottoms of the pistons if your EGT's get high. I'm not sure how much oil from the squirters gets into the wrist pins, but I would venture to guess that it isn't much.

If no one's given a better answer by the time I get home from work, I'll look through my manual and see what it has to say about Loctite, lock washers, etc. on the squirter bolts...

Piston oil jets... They are there to cool the pistons but.. They do much more. They oil the cylinders ALL the time. Even when cranking for a compression test. so give up the thought of squirting some oil into the top of the cylinders to "make a better compression reading". They do a good job of oiling the wrist pin too but thats not their design. Let one jet plug and and see how long a piston will last. Its not very long.
Install the jets before you attempt installing the pistons. Those bolts are a special grade bolt too. Do not use a home depot bolt. The engine harmonics will crack the bolts and then you loose a poston of the complete engine because you have no oil pressure. The special bolts can still be purchased from Ford and International. they come with a drop of thread lock on them. I recall it is a red color. Using blue loctite is fine too. Just make sure the bolt holes in the block are cleaned out too. No lock washers. A properly torqued bolt has the correct amount of stretch on it and will not loosen up.

Yep, oil jets are mainly for piston cooling. They provide some wrist pin lube as well, but the main function is cooling.

No reason to unless they're damaged - just clean them up, add a bit of loctite and torque to spec.

As already posted. Reuse them. If the engine has never been apart those jets were factory installed and are not over torqued. New is nice but used has benefits too.

Buy new and be sure is the fast simple answer. Can't say for certain Ford would be cheaper than International but... Let your fingers do the walking and call both shopping price. Isnt this a business expense???

very few items have been a "business expense"
i wish i had the moneys to chalk it all up to "advertisement and vehicle maintenance"
but while im still paying on the business, this is not practical.

trust me, when the business is paid off, im getting a 20k bonus,
and all of it being spent with Butler Performance on 2000 hp

About 10 years ago I found out the hole size in the end of the jets was a number 68 drill bit. My plan was to open up the jets a tiny bit. It was much more work than just using a larger drill bit. When a hole is made larger you need to lots of calculations because to simply double the size it not the same as using a number 136 drill bit if one was made that size. Then take that times 8 and hope you still have enough volume to keep the pressure up in the main oil galley. Then can the pistons handle double the oil spray under them. It gets complicated fast. If you were to open them up be sure you figured it all out first.
