No start

Ok guys. Not my truck but a friends.
Truck was sitting for about a year. He put some fresh fuel in it and fired it up. Had it idling in The driveway for about 3 hours. Went for a ride. It died. Would crank but no start. Gave it a lil shot of ether and it fired up and he headed back home. Died again. Shot of either and would start and die. Got it towed home.

Now, has fuel to the IP but nothing coming out. Ideas?
How does the fuel shut off solenoid work? 12v keeps the engine alive, right? And that is on the top center of the IP?

Yep, prolly needs a good does of cleaner to "wash" out the sludge buildup.

I would pull the fuel filter and fill it with 3/4 Howes and 1/4 ATF, and then give your fuel system a good dose of cleaner.

But what I dont get, it it idled for 3 hours. Or once it demanded more fuel if sucked up junk. But the filter would of stopped it

Maybe it was gunked up all the time, it just had enough fuel to idle and once it needed more it couldn't get through.

Hot rpm transitions through the resonance points of the injection lines shook loose the crap and clogged the injector tips. Fill a new filter with Howes, pull the lines and throw an old towel over the pump and spin the starter/engine for 30 sec, let cool & do it once more. Refill filter with Howes, reconnect lines to pump but not to injectors, spin 30 sec.x 2 and wipe off engine. Refill filter with ATF, reconnect lines to injectors, start engine, drive like stolen from bad cop.

There could also be an air intrustion issue, sometimes they don't show their ugly face until the engine is loaded. Try the howes/atf - it works. Back to the basics is what is needed in this case.

Longshot - check for algae

Check the filter for signs of rust or algae ....

Depending on how long it actually sat and at what time
of the year - it could have algae .......
