I have recently let my mind wander to the area of nitrous on a idi.
I know next to nothing about nitrous, but when I asked around, the people I asked were familiar with nitrous and newer diesels, not idis. They basically told me you couldnt run nitrous on a idi without blowing it up. whatevs. Why? the most informative guy told me it was because nitrous effectively increases timing because of how fast it burns, and where on newer diesels you can tune for that you cant on a idi.
So I am curious what are you guys thoughts on nitrous and how to make it work on an idi.
I am pondering using it, and if i do use it, it would probably be a 25-50 shot.
But What can we do about timing? When you want to run nitrous retard the timing and run the cold advance soleniod, and kick it off when you go wot/hit nitrous?
I am already working on building a water **** kit, and if i add nitrous it will be after i am studded. interested to learn.

A small shot would wake up any IDI. I wouldn't worry about timing with such a small shot, if it is a problem you will hear it.

Here’s a copy of my pm describing my previous setup.

Run it as a dry shot, so just straight nitrous. Just a single nozzle tapped into my intake I built for the 6637, it’s just regular 1/8” npt. I ran a nitrous solenoid just before that which just acts as a switch to open or close the flow. I had the nitrous bottle mounted in my toolbox so it was incognito, ran 15ft of -4 braided stainless line from the bottle all the way to the engine bay. Bottle had a heater blanket on it that I had a manual switch for that, along with a digital pressure gauge, you want to maintain around 950 psi if you are gonna spray. The whole system was turned on by a second toggle switch that supplied a ground for everything then 12v would act as the signal to trigger certain parts like the heater, solenoid and the purge. Purge is just another solenoid that you can open to purge the contaminates out of the nitrous line so you only get nitrous going into your intake. The main nitrous solenoid was triggered by a switch under my throttle pedal that turned it on when I was at wot. It’shard to say how big of a shot it was since there’s not a lot of engines to compare to but it was average sized pill.

You don’t need to worry about timing even if you ran with an open nozzle, diesels run on knock and higher cylinder pressures just burn the fuel better. Gasser needs timing retarded since knock=preignition=breaking pistons
