Is there a reason the metal part of the tube is so long? I had to cut two inches of the hose that was bad looking off but I don't have enough slack to get the hose the whole way flush to the bottom of the metal but it's still far enough for two hose clamps so I think it's ok.

Nope. If you want to replace that fitting, lowes has brass ones with a much shorter tube. I replaced mine because old one was corroded real bad.

The heater hose doesn't go all the way to the bottom of that fitting. It only goes down to the second bulge on the fitting.

Well I got it running tonight. No leaks and it's nice and smooth and quiet with 4 new belts and I upgraded to the short belt for my alternator.

Now my only issue is i gotta have air in the cooling system. I let it run for 25 minutes and my mechanical gauge only went to 150 from the overtemp sensor and I had no heat [haven't put the fan back on yet] . I decided to go for a short drive and got to the end of the lane and it was at 220. I thought this is weird and just headed back and it dropped to 140 as the thermostat opened and I had heat. I let it sit and idle for a bit at 190 and shut it down and the radiator was warm.

Figure I'll top it off tomorrow morning and hope the air is gone and keep the overflow bottle full. My mechanical gauge jumped a bunch as the air pockets passed by. Hopefully my coolant comes to the house tomorrow and I can drain all this distilled water out and fill it for good. Stupid mechanical gauges are nice until you have pockets of air and go from 140 to 220 to 140.

Great u got it together...no leaks is awesome...get it warm park on steep hill let heat soak n hope it burps system...or get a vacuum filler that works too.

The vid on fans was great and presents a good bit of evidence to swap to electric.

Seeing as u need power uphill when running warm and fan kicks in...they should have pinned that clutch fan to determine loss under load.....as we have....

I am going electric and in style....1 day

Again glad its working out..

Yep I went for a longer ride this morning. Added almost 2 gallons of distilled water after the system worked it's air out. Let it cool down after the ride today and only had to add a small dribble of water.

Interesting that my factory gauge went up to the o in normal and it's never went that far today. Still don't have my fan on so I'm sure it's just soaking more heat or something stupid cause my mechanical gauge was fine.

Gonna take the truck to buddies shop tomorrow and use his pneumatic tools to lock the fan on good, drain the water our tomorrow and put the coolant in for good and were done. Mission accomplished. Just gonna have to mess around with the air one last time but that's easy.
