New Windshield Monday

Well.. I'm schedualed to have a new windshield installed in the 89 crewcab Monday morning. Had one installed about 14 years ago and got a stone bullseye from the crappy dirt rods just over the border in Canada... sure pissed me off when it happened. This huge ass dirt hauling ass trucker went flying low by me and I even moved way over to my side of the dirt path. He was doing probably 60 + mph and I was doing barely 45 nph hauling horses to Regina. The spot was about 1 inch from my side of the chrome strip at the lower edge of the shield. Sure... I could have moved over another inch but hell... i was over more than I needed to be. So I have driven with that for many years.. Then this last summer its probably 104 outside and the early morning sun is beating into the front windshield. Trucks dirty so I decide to wash it.... Opps... Now never in my life has the heat and a stone chip ever cracked glass... But it sure did. I had the water on the windshield when I heard this cracking thud sound. As I'm looking at the shield I was this line run from the top to the bottom like a blt of lightening stricking something. So there I was.. Cracked windshield and al plus a hot dirty truck.. So I washed it and just left it be... Reasons for leaving it is its on the wifeys side... Doesn't really bother me much but it needs to be fixed... So thats my story and I'm sticken to it...

Does the Highway Patrol pull people over for cracks in windshields, out in Cali??

I had just put in a new windshield when I completely went through my truck (about 3 years ago) and then 2 years ago a state highway truck was going about 70 down a chip-sealed road, cracked it in 2 places.. I swear I've never been so upset in my life.. I know the feeling haha. At least it was on the other side though!

Well.. there I was.. Cracked and a hot dirty truck.. on the wifeys side... ..... thats my story and I'm sticken to it...

it will fail the safety inspection in VA if the crack cant be covered by a quarter

Jim.. It would take a roll of quarters to cover this crack... As for the chp ticketing us the answer is yes. So will the local pd too. But the way so many undocs are driving around with missing headlites, maybe a red rag duct taped over a tail lite or a cracked so badly windshield it would be easy to cry foul. they get away with murder and those of us that pay taxes and have insurance get the shaft. I actually have been putting myself out there trying to get an officer to pul me over and ask about the crack. Its just a reason to fix it type ticket. Not a moving points violation at all...

I see vehicles driven around that look like someone went through the windshield.

Around here they get you for tag light. When it works just fine. Then you get ticketed for carrying open container and minor in possession of alcohol.
And I don't even drink!

But the windshield on my 94 is scratched all to hell. Can't hardly drive towards the sun.

I need to get a new windshield to.lol mine got cracked yesterday morning from a huge ass piece of ice that came off my hood when I was running 60 mph and hit a pit hole

Not normally. I drove my old pickup 25 yrs with a a spider webbed windshield and they never bothered me.took me 25 yrs to find a good one since a new glass is not available for that model pickup (international) . Don't drive stupid and they leave you alone.

My 4x4 has a cracked windshield that will be taken care of after I get it running, but the PO used the windshield to affix the pyro and boost gauges with rear view mirror glue. Go figure. So, I have another project putting those gauges in a modified pillar pod.

My silver truck has a good windshield, but there are plenty of pits, so it may have to be replaced, too.

I have a good and inexpensive glass guy that comes to my shop and is done in 1 hour or less. I will be calling him.

Another thing for 80-86 owners- the later windshield (87-94)will fit our trucks, but the VIN is in a different place so it will be obscured in case you have to clearly see the VIN for title purposes.
