New problem

Ok so my truck now has a new problem, its been nickle and dimeing me. But now the temp gauge is going crazy. Ive never had any problems with it before, but now all of a sudden the gauge will move to really warm, like the L in normal, then it will come back down to the r then it will go back up to the L. So im not sure what to think. Its possible the fan clutch is going out, but the water pump is new, and the thermo is new, coolant is new. So my thought is there might be an air bubble somewhere in the system, or the fan clutch is dieing, or my gauge is just Freaking out.

Thoughts... I know the factory gauges are not very good, but they have been reliable thus far. If i got a coolant temp gauge, where would the sender go? Who makes the cheapest but still relable guages, nothing against Isspro, but they are kinda pricey.

put a manual gauge with numbers on it. THOSE FACTORY GAUGES ARE JUNK! dont trust them, now if you get the same readings with your new guage then some thing might need replaced.

Yeah that would be awesome, gauge brands now? VDO guages are cheap, ISSPRO is $$$. Where is the balance?

Actually, except for the absence of numbers, the factory temperature gauge is fairly reliable.

That being said, I like a decent MANUAL gauge, 270*-sweep, with numbers, to back it up.

I would suspect that your fan-clutch may be on the way out.


Does the gauge come up when moving slow, then go back down as road-speed increases ??

sunpro is a good gauge, just go to your local napa autozone o riley advanced auto whatever is in your area they should have every thing you need

umm, the gauge will come up when on the freeway, moving like 55 - 60, but it will jump back to normal quickly sometimes, like something changed. Its moving so much its hard to tell if its road speed or something else that's changing it.

that the same way i feel. mine really aint that bad about money cause mine only has 98000 origanal miles on the body, the motor was rebuilt but i dont know when, the body on mine is almost perfect the paint aint great but the motor is just like it rolled off the show room floor. and im willing to put my money into it rather than go pay 50000 for a brand new one.

alright well i grabbed the sunpro gauge 3 pack, and now im wondering:

1 how do u run these through the firewall
2 where do i plug everything in at... Whats the best place for Coolant temp thats easy to get too. If i want to run oil pressure, where should i put the sender.
3 hooking up the lights, what did you guys do?

i hear ya about the payments. but the last couple of months i have been making payments anyways, and still dont have the reliabilty and peace of mind. i keep telling myself, i will ,eventuallly, fix everything so that i can drive with sticking more money into it.

someone else will have to send you a pic and show you were to hook the temp gauge at. but i just got done hookin the sunpro oil pressure gauge in my truck up and i run the tube threw the same hole that cable to the hood relese goes threw the fire wall, now to hook the oil pressure gauge up pull your air cleaner off and climb on top of the engine look next to the glow plug controller there should be a round lookin deal thats youe factory oil pressure sender take it out, YOU MAY NEED TO BUY SOME THINGS TO ADAPT IT TO THAT SIZE,i recomend using some kind of thred sealer or you will have a leak trust me! but i think a hole will have to be drilled for the temp gauges wire lead cause that thing is big.

o and the lights hook them in so you have one wire grounded and the other needs to get hooked into a wire that has power when you pull your head light switch on.

I can probably use the wire for the radio, i think there is a dimmer wire there. What kind of oil pressure do you normally see? I know on the freeway my gauge will go to the higher end of normal, man i cant wait to get this thing hooked up. I think the water temp gauge will go into the hole on top of the water pump, but im not sure.
