Yep, I run WVO and was an "expert" on another vehicle before I bought my IDI, but I would not even consider it before running through a least a couple of oil changes to
"recommission" the van. There will be issues (you have come to the right place to get help to fix them) that you may never be able to resolve easily if you throw the WVO variable at an engine whose performance and idiosyncrasies are not known to you.

I'm glad to hear some voices of reason. I've been known to jump in the deep end without thinking in the past, so I take take this opportunity to do it right the first time. Perhaps WVO will be an option down the road, but for now it's all about tune up, and diagnosis to ensure a successful summer tour (Idaho, Colorado, Montana).:hail

I do intend on using Biodiesel. Anyone know if the seals and hoses are pure rubber? I'll be getting a closer look at the fuel lines and motor throughout the week, but if anyone knows if I'll be needing Viton hoses or seals, please let me know.

Thanks again!

There's some videos on you tube that show Hydrogen production for potential fuel MPG increased efficiency. Fact, or Farce? Any opinions?

I'm not sure if it works on a diesel, I do know that it works on gassers though. Have also been told (here) that a turbo will increase your economy IF you can keep your right foot out of it.

P.S. Yest the seals are rubber and you will need the viton.

Any idea who distributes replacement Viton seals and hoses for a 6.9 liter engine?

Hoses and seals are pretty much standard.

O-Rings will be either Metric or SAE/standard.

Best/cheapest is to just buy a big assortment/kit and match them up.

What are you gonna do about the many O-rings within the injector-pump ?? ;Really

Hmmm good question. How reasonable is an IP rebuild?

I used these guys here in Portland a couple years ago and was happy with them. Nice to walk it in and talk face to face. At that time I paid $385.00

I haven't yet asked if they use Viton on the pump.:dunno Let me know if you find out, otherwise I will call and find out, I'm curious, they are usually very willing to answer questions over the phone.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that by now the replacement stanadyne rebuilt kits should have viton seals in them. They would have to if there are any vehicles with these pumps operating within the EU. About 12 or more years ago Germany made it law that all new diesel equipment had to be biodiesel compatible and the EU followed shortly after. All bosch new and replacement parts are biodiesel compatible , so I would assume that unless stanadyne are complete dolts, they have upgraded their kits as well, especially when you consider the sheer number of hummers the military has out there that run in Europe

Not only that, but I'm told here in Oregon that all the Diesel has 5 or 10 or 20 percent Bio in it.

Obviously I'm paying no attention.

Things I can tell you from my experience

1. Ford gauges suck (just spent 500 bucks on S-W gauges for this reason)

2. Alternative fuels look good on paper, but can mess up your engine real bad and youll be shelling out a lot of a different kind of paper

3. Power steering pumps are about 75 bucks IIRC and to me its easier to replace the whole thing (and get a warranty) then to mess with new seals. You will also probably need new hoses too. (use ATF type F when you refill it)

4. Familiarize yourself with cavitation.

5. See above. its very important

6. IDIs are great. simple to work on. cheap parts (when compared to a stroker) and will last you for many miles

7. Oilburners.net is slightly more addictive than nicotine. But you dont have to be 18 to logonLOL

Happy Trucking!! or Vaning in your case;Sweet

Well I'm feeling very welcome here, thanks everyone for all the advice. I'll keep on posting along the way, and with some hard work and a bit of luck I think I'll have some good stories to tell.

As far as MPG, some people were giving you some pretty dismal numbers back there. There are a bunch of discussions of this on the board, but I would say that on the highway you should see 16mpg, I see that or better consistently, and my rig is heavier and pushes more air than yours. However, I do have the E4OD tranny which has the locking converter, yours is a c6 right, so you'll lose some there.
Get the thing reliable first, and understand it's quirks, before you try changing stuff.
