Never use Ether (Never,Never,Never)
Take a rag and soak in gasoline put it over the intake or against the air cleaner pickup.
Ether drys out cylinders (no lube,) if you have a working gp controller it can cause a expensive explosion.
And setting money on fire is better than buying junk from Pensacola diesel.

A rag soaked in WD 40 also works well, to support the above! Diesel parts are always a bit more than the gas, but I suggest never "cheaping out" on most of what they need. Treat them well and they will treat you well!!
30 plus years working on 6.9 and 7.3 IDIs NA and early turbo!

well this sucks was running great for a little while now wont hardly pull itself , got a lot of white smoke but no power wont get out of its own way could it be ip timing ?going to try adjusting it slightly but fires right up wont get over @1800-2000 rpm and is slightly surging

Could be loosing fuel pressure, air intrusion/clogged fuel filter/bad lift pump can cause those issues
