New Design I have Been Working On...

For some time I have been buying the power stroke filter housings that fit from 99 to 2003 or so. They need very little modification to work on our fuel systems. They are simple to mount. Easy to drain and best of all. The filters are way cheaper and seaier to change out. Just unscrew the top. Drain the filter. Remove the dirty filter and install the new clean one. Electric pump will fill the filter and it bleeds out the air simpley to the return line system just as the idi filters do. The water in fuel and the heater electrical lines are all in one plug. I'm making a discharge manifold for it also. the filter housings have 2 ports that are 1/8 pipe so I will be running a 1/4 inch feed line to the injection pump instead of the factory 5/16 inch line. Actually the header manifold will be 2 1/8 into the header and the outlet to the pump will be a 5/16 line. Its just the idea that I will only be feeding the pump from 2 1/8 inch lines. I really don't feel it will starve the pump for fuel that is cooling and lube. Will post up pics as I make them... May even make a viedo. Those that have an intercooler will like this because to replace the filter all you do is just unscrew the top cover. Lift out. Install. Close and go... Cheaper... Quicker... What more can a person want....

Sounds like one heck of a good idea. I'm curious to see how this setup looks under the hood. Just curious, I currently run a wix fuel filter in my 6.9. Can I run the 7.3 idi filter with the water drain plug on it? I don't think the 6.9 idi wix filters have a water seperator intergated inside but I could be wrong.

one word of caution on that damn drain valve......have the retrofit kit handy just in case it decides not to seal any longer when you open and close it one too many times. Like the IDI, I have a field service pack for PSD's also. when I was forced to drive a 6.0 truck, a satphone was part of the required field kit.

Sorry but no pics just yet. As for the leaky factory oem o-rings... thats something I will install when this actually goes into my rig. Something about a material change due to the cheap diesel we have to run these days. Its easy to know what o-rings we have by the color they are. I think we didn't want the blueish green looking ones. The filter housing will fit really easy on the oem filter mount. We just remove the original one and drill two holes and install the modified one.

Is the newer PSD filter the same or finer micron rating than that which we currently run?

BTW....PICS ASAP as I am close to installing my damn coolant filter and some other doo dads...and as such kinda would rather work a change in BEFORE I go and do all this other stuff...*****

the retrofit kit is more than a o-ring. there's a valve included to hit you for a pricetag north of $50.

The 6.9 and 7.3 use different filter headers so different filters are needed. Add and aftermarket filter water separator like a Racor 225 or similar. And as for the stock 6.9 filter, it filters down to 5 micron whereas the 7.3 filter only filters to 10 micron. I certainly prefer 5 micron over 10 and so does the IP im sure!!

gary i am super interested in this as well. for some reason my fuel filter will leak about once every two weeks out of the water separator. i will try to tighten it and cannot feel it move, but that usually stops it for a little while. if you have any idea what that is about let me know, but all this to say, if this will be less hassle and cheaper i am all in. get some pictures up quick so i can copy you.

My last idi filter I got from Nappa was about $40.00.... For that same amount I can buy 5 psd filters plus they are so easy to install. Open the top, pull out the dirty and install the clean.... Not a bad idea...
