:dunno I just switched out my banks system for my 94 factory ats turbo, built 3" downpipe, and cold air induction tube. This took place sun. and mon. I finally got everything jiveing as far as my exhaust leaks and what not. Yesterday i noticed a pool of oil in pan beneath intake, and figured it was likely the o-ring on backside of intake opening, (where the return oil tube goes into block) today spent three hours taking care of that little problem.:backoff cleaned all oil out of intake area before driving home tonight. (not even a mile) when i got home noticed oil dripping off axle, and figured it was oil coming from dipstick hole where i screwed up the seal the other day. anyway got hood open and holy shi&, oil everywhere. Its on the water pump, pooled under intake, and pretty much all over both heads and exht. manifolds, dripping off of pan, and axle. Where the hell did this come from, cant pinpoint. I never had this kind of oil leak before w/ banks setup, just small typical IDI leaks. dont know if maybe ive done something wrong or what, sure hope someone can tell me whats going on. am trying to download pics of cold air int. system to see if maybe somethings wrong w/how i mounted the cdr (or what ever that thing is called, thats normally on the valve cover on a 94) I put it on top of intake tube, behind filter, drilled hole underneath cdr, and routed hose to hole below oil fill hole. (basically same as banks setup) other than this oil problem, this turbo spools like a mother, and makes my truck run great. BTW checked oil tonight and it was barely on the stick, (kinda goes w/ out sayin) and was full yesterday, and ive driven maybe 3miles total. any input much apreciated, GOD BLESS.

Very strange. It's usually the factory CDR/turbo pedestal grommet that causes this problem or some sort of CDR issue but it sounds like you did the CDR right and already addressed the CDR grommet. How is the oil supply line to the turbo? My understanding is that the factory turbo and similar ATS 093 systems used a not so great supply line which was prone to cracking and causing these problems. A braided steel turbo oil supply or hydraulic hose was usually the permanent solution. This volume of oil suggests its under pressure and not the usual IDI leaks, probably the leak is only one place and is being blown all over by the fan and road airflow. The only other thing I could think of is maybe you switched out the valley pan(intake gasket) while doing the ATS install and forgot to swiss cheese it with lots of extra drainback holes or you had the wrong CDR grommet for the fix. That or maybe one of the main engine seals unrelated to the turbo but since you did the swap, it makes sense that would have something to do with the current problem and not something irrelevant like the seals.

Thanks for the suggestions. where exactly is the CDR grommet located? I also used banks oil supply line, which is the steel braided, and the leak is definately not there. Did not switch out valley pan Gasket(maybe should have). I do have slight rear main leak I believe, not much of a problem so far, other than lugging up hills with load makes clutch smell bad. I noticed tonight w/ flashlight that most of the oil seems to be on dipstick side, near as i can tell. How quickly can oil deposit through dipstick hole w/ seal gone and dip tube in place? And could it possibly be getting to fan via this location?

You know I'm not sure. I broke my dipstick tube some months back and I was able to start and run the engine with no leak, not everyone is so lucky. I still didn't chance it I cut a piece off of the busted dipstick tube and put a vaccuum plug on it. The new dipstick tube is only about $20 from your Ford Stealer and if you just want to seal it but still have the old one you'll want to add a bit of RTV or copper gasket maker right around where it seals to the block. That would rule it in or out. As far as getting up to the fan, I'm not sure many things are possible. The CDR grommet for the ATS factory and 093 turbo is a bit different from the ATS 088 turbo and the one for the stock valley pan. Don't know which grommet you used....

Didja punch a hole thru the bottom of the valley pan baffle?

There is a baffle system in the OE valley pan design, You need to punch a hole (or a few, depending on what size hole Your getting with your punch) in the baffle now that Your using it for a Turbo Oil Return, It's not designed to handle that volume of oil.

sounds like maybe a combo of the dip tube and valley baffle, although the banks on it had same oil return spot. PO may not have put hole in baffle, and I didnt pay any attention when it was apart. Ill clean it up put rtv on dip hole, then keep an eye out. I read the hyper max install thread last night and thinking baffle hole is direction I need to go. Thanks all and Ill let ya know what i find.

I really think there is a leak either with the turbo oil supply or return. I doubt the vally pan baffle is the issue as you would have had the same problem with the Banks turbo. My bet is the oil return is not sealing to the bottom of the turbo, the oil return/turbo mount is cracked/broken, or something in oiling system for the turbo. How about the oil pressure sender? Where is it now and is it leaking all this oil? You can't leak that much oil in such a short amount of time without it being under pressure.

My feeling is its thw turbo oil return line into the valley pan. If oil gets on the valley pan it can wash out from the front and get into the fan easily when you stop moving down the road. Thats where I would be looking for an oil leak. Others have had this same oil leak.

oil pressure sender right on top and not a seap! will check closer to return area. I installed new o-ring between turbo and return pedistal, maybe not the right kind, and it fried the thing :dunno thanks for the input, and ill check this connection when i get home this evening.

definately the direction im going, good point about the front wash out. I feel kind of retarded that I didnt think of that, cookoo; cause theres oil all over the timing cover. I pretty much just freaked out when I saw all that oil on the axle and everywhere else:eek: thanks all for mentioning the fan. I know some of the oil on the pan is comming from dip tube hole, easy enough to fix i spose;Sweet just assumed the worse.

Are you sure that the valley pan grommet is the same for the Banks and the ATS ? If it's the wrong size or torn you would have crankcase pressure forcing oil onto the valley pan during boost.

I used the ATS grommet, which is about an eighth bigger ID. It fits pretty snug around pedistal end, but could possibly be leaking around valley pan portion w/ boost. GOOD suggestion will check that out.
