Howdy Trikebent!
There are companies that manufacture PTO-mounted passive coolers/filtration add-ons, so it could be anything.
In my own research for part numbers for a BW 1356 I came across Torque King PTO side cooler, though if transmission PTO covers are tapped 1/8" could those covers have originally been intended to have temp sensors installed and an oil cooler was engineered instead?
A transmission oil cooler for a manual that tows is still a cool upgrade as long as it doesn't leak!
Ok, here are the connections to the transmission. I installed the temperature sensor in a 1/8" pipe thread port in the cover. I checked for clearance with a probe(screwdriver) before installing. I did not disturb the hose barb fittings. Plan is to tow a 6800 lb travel trailer.
That is pretty cool actually. A bit excessive for an idi that doesn't have enough power to kill itself but a cool addition none the less. I'd be more worried about a line rupturing and dumping all my lube on the freeway but i'm a huge fan of simplicity.
I'll post temperatures. So far on a 90 deg F day at 60 mph, no trailer, flat ground, 5 mile distance, I'm reading 150 deg transmission temp. Turning on the pump did not change the temperature, but I may not have left it on long enough.
