Ron Butts had bad luck doing it. But choice of hardware must be a determining factor, because my 2 plus at least one other person I can think of have not had any problems.

Yup, known quality hardware and following the instructions to a T are the key factors in a successful transplant.

I've not yet found a "lucky mod" in the OB forums. Should I look outside of the idi section. I pretty much stay in the one section guess cause I haven't needed info on the other engine systems yet.

Ok checked out the link and I have read that thread. Just missed the lucky mod tag on it.

I did the lucky mod on my truck. When we drilled out the holes, we used a drill press but we weren't super exact. The flywheel has turned out fine though and there's no noticeable vibes. I used some cheap grade 8 bolts but mine has held up fine so far.

Ok thanks alot, Another question I had was about the clutch disc. I know it needs to have springs, but does it matter how many? On some kits( the ones designed for SMF) The clutch discs have springs on the inside and out, and others only have springs on the inside around the hub.

I'm putting one together without the springs. Just cause I'm feelin' gutsy. LOL I got a standard disc... no springs. We will see what happens.

Is it possible to resurface a dual mass flywheel after locking it up with bolts? or do you generally just scuff it up/deglaze and run it with a fresh disk?

thanks,
Mike
