If by spinning lots of tyres
You mean only 1 rear, then yes.
If it's drifting both no...
Ever notice how a straight away holeshot with a lsd will dogleg ( drift the rearend out)?

What's happening with you?

Just one tyre will spin! The other nothing. And it’ll switch sides depending.

Never had any rear-end drift out

Hey y’all, been looking into lockers my self. Spinning lots of tyres with my factory Dana 60 “limited slip” in the snow the last few weeks.

Would rebuilding the clutches help or be worth the time and money? Parts are cheapish

If not I’ll be saving up for Detroit Locker or TrueTrac.

Is it a trac-loc or powr-lok? The former is cheaper to rebuild, but also less effective.

It might be wise to consider a stronger diff (like a $100 Ford 10.25") and put fresh clutches (or locker) in that. Then your brakes are bigger and easier to service too.

No to sure which one it would be, only thing I found from my axle code was Dana 6250 Limited Slip 3.54.

Got a quote for a TrueTrac LSD with new bearings…. Yikes… $2750 CAD

@parkergn one thing you might try as I learned from @u2slow is to drop the diff fluid, put in new WITHOUT the friction modifier.

Tightened my LSD right up, and works great.

Then I further followed his advice and go find a gravel spot and turn circles each way. If the rear end inside tire starts grabbing or chirping or clicking (something like that) then add just a little at a time until it stops.

If you're chirping on gravel you've got a LOT more ponies than I do! :joker:

@u2slow
I've heard the LSD also stays tighter with non-synthetic gear oil?
Wes used to post about taking those LSD's and servicing them by flipping every other clutch disc around and he would get them running good again on the cheap. Sound legit?
Might be the way for OP to go at least to try out before spending the coin.

Oh yeah? That maybe worth trying and something I could do on the road!

And to clarify, add the modifier a little at a time until any chirping stops?

My factory LSD was not working worth a dang. My house is on a hill with a small shallow ditch next to the driveway. It will unload most of the weight off one wheel and my van had trouble.

Went searching i found a post by u2slow. I followed it and it worked for me.

Dropped the fluid, put in conventional 75w-90 (I don’t tow).

Then he stated to perform circles at full lock of the steering wheel, I did this at idle. I did 10 each way.

IF your inside tire drags or you feel the LSD want to engage, then add 1/2 the amount of modifier it calls for. And repeat the circles.

I didn’t have to add any modifier. It engages nearly immediately on traction loss and my van now has no trouble crossing the ditch while going uphill.
