Some of you might recall me casually mentioning that the shop I paid $1200 or something like that for emergency major brake work on the RV didn't put the axle vent bolt through the new rear vent hose's metal block, instead cutting off the old hose, leaving the old metal block and zip tying the new one on.

Well, I found out why today. Old vs new. Take note of the space above the threads. The new is much thicker. The breather vent bolt is too short, it can't reach the threads in the axle.

Oreilly doesn't list any for an 85 E350 at all, nor does RockAuto. But for an 88 E350, it lists one for Stering axles. It gives no thread size though. It looks longer than the one I have:

Way back in 2006 somebody else here on OB asked the same question and someone said at the time 7/16-20: https://www.oilburners.net/threads/dana-70-axle-vent-thread-size.14730/

Assuming that's true, what size is the Sterling's?

EDIT: Somebody answered a question on Crapazon, saying it's 7/16-20. True or not? Dunno.

I guess I'll get one at Oreilly when I get to one again and compare mine to it, before I try to install it.

Seems like you could just grind the block down to the correct height?

Nah, it's already installed. For $8, it seems I can just buy the right bolt. I'll report back once I get one.

7/16-20 sounds like the one for the 9" I had in my 86. I'm guessing it's pretty universal.

I would go to a hardware store and buy the cheapest 7/16-20 bolt they have and test it. Right or wrong you'll only be out a buck or so.

Or take the bolt in and match it to a nut and pay nothing. ;)
