I looking at picking up a 7.3 with a factory turbo. It had a blown head gasket and has been sitting in the truck for a few years. Im not sure if re motors cranks but the turbo wont spin at all. The blades all look good and I cant see any scrape marks so im thinking that it just may be locked up from sitting so long.

What are your guys opinions? Im think at the least it will need a rebuild kit.

If anything ill get it and part the kit out for those that need to complete non complete kits.

Well, im planning to pull the motor out later this week. It looks to be fairly low milaged unit so only taking it apart will allow me to tell. The guy says its locked up but until I get it into my hands im not going to need with it. Don't want to potential screw up a good deal.

Type 4, did you happen to get my pm a few weeks ago?

A locked up engine could mean a cylinder has filled with coolant or water... either way that cylinder may be shot to hell with rust. If something let go because a cylinder filled with coolant then a piece of piston could be causing the turbo lockup. A blown head gasket can cause plenty of problems but you wont know till you tear down the engine. Removing the glow plugs and hand cranking the engine may tell you which cylinders are at fault...

Alright thanks.

I figured the same thing as for why its locked up. Im givng scrap price for the motor to cover myself a little. There should hopefully be enough stuff on the motor to help out as well.

The firstthing ill do is to pull the Glowplugs then the heads if I can't get it to turn over. The oils black ands little low but doest appear to have any metal chunks in it. The coolant is gone which has me a bit worried
