Last minute question before putting heads back

I'm replacing the head gasket due to some starter fluid use. Someone told me I should have the heads checked for and warped areas. There is what looks like some carbon build up on the top of the piston bore hole. But that's opposite the side that actually was damaged from starting fluid.

The side with the carbon had coolant in the pistons when I pulled the head and it was there before I pulled it so I think it's safe to say that was the head gasket that needed to be replaced.

I was really looking to have this put back together today but now I'm wondering if I should have the heads checked out.

I'd have them checked for warping, cracks, valve guides/stems for wear/play, valve seats and the works. Nothing like a bad head to kill an IDI in short order.

You have them off, there's not a better time than now to either reassure yourself they are fine or find a problem and get it fixed before you have to repeat the job again or cause a more $$$ problem.

As much as it sucks to hear it, I'll agree with these guys. If there's an issue, it's better to find and fix it now rather than 5000, 500, or even 5 miles down the road.
