Before I install the tailhousing and stuff again, I just wanted to make sure that the ZF S5-42 is gasketless like the BW1356... If not, does anyone know how much the tailhousing gasket should cost?

I'm guessing that the bearings rely on the gasket for clearance spacing & such, so RVT would not be an option if a seal is needed.

between the housing and the tail section I use the Loctite 518/815(???? could remember which one) gel that is designed for aluminum parts that don't use a gasket. between the tailhousing and the transfer case there is a gasket availible but once again I cheat and use the gel.

sillycone is a big nono as far as I am concerned. The stuff that squeezes out on the inside of the casing is a bomb waiting to go off. go down to your local NAPA and ask for the loctite stuff. it does cost a few more $$$ than sillycone but worth the peace of mind.

added in edit...
loctite 518 is the stuff I was referring to. google it up and check it out.
