Not a good idea. They have some special tools for that job plus if you have enver done this you can really ruin the pump. The internal clearances are way less than a thousands of an inch. Also you will need a special flow meter to set it. Contact Mel if you really want to do this. He is the closest to an expert on this site about the DB2 pumps.

Your best bet is to grab a cheap junkyard core and have at it. Building a rotary pump right isn't easy though, and the correct way to do it is to have one of those(expensive) calibration test flow benches Mel showed. There's a guy on the 6.2 forum, dieseldummy, who's messed with the 6.2 pump, he doesn't claim to be an expert but he'll tell you what worked for him. My advice is to get pump or two that are cheap and if you completely ruin them your feelings won't be hurt too bad, and do your homework and learn all you can about them before you even think about putting one you built on a truck. Probably the worst risk you're taking is that a home rigged pump might be so far out of calibration that you could cause the engine to run away when you start it back up. Be aware of what you're risking and at least have a secondary way to shut off the engine before it commits suicide. A solid hard bound book or smooth clean piece of plywood to clap over the intake. A shop rag or beachtowel won't do it. If it does run away it will scare you senseless. Be careful and take it slow and easy. I have never built an injection pump, but man would I love to learn how to do that stuff right. People that can do a good job are in short supply as are really high quality reman pumps, which is why people are willing to pay a premium for the Moose.

i can have a shop reassemble a modded pump i dont mind that
mell share some knowledge i want to learn
i was planning on using the junkyard pump to play with i got 6 sitting in a local yard at 30 bucks or so each

would a fuel cutoff work i dont like the idea of anythign going into a motor so the fuel would be the way to go

I think it was well worth the money. Just for reading, even if you're not gonna rebuild.

I read a couple three articles online about the DB2 and you can see this is the book they got there info from, so it must be the one.

It's 46 pages of a book. Lots of diagrams. Cover dissassembly and assembly, removal and installation.

Dosen't give any calibration numbers or anything, but there's nothing you could do with 'em if you had 'em anyway.

It's a scanned CD so some of the diagrams and smallest print it a little hard to decipher. Haven't tried to print any of it yet to see if it's better that way.

Is this a test machine for lots of different pumps or this is for the Stanadyne pumps only? If it's for the one style pump only, that looks like a pretty big investment for one type of pump.

I bet you it would test a lot of different pumps. Even if it was just stanadyne DB2 and DB4 and DS4 a man could have a lot of business doing just those 4 pumps, but I imagine it does all the common ones. I think those stands are well north of 20,000 bucks even used. Take you forever to pay for that even if you were to get certified and sell your stuff, if you did 2-3 pumps a day at 500 bucks a pop it would still be a red ink monster for years. Having said that, if I remember right, what dieseldummy did was to adapt his pump somehow to an electric drill and have vials to catch the diesel squirts. Obviously a very Rube Goldbergian device but it worked for him. I think he's pretty happy with what he did to a 6.2 pump. I doubt a shop will reassemble and bench test anything for you that they didn't build themselves.
