Injector line difference

Hey all. My 89 with the 7.3 has been hard to start and generally a little underpowered. Not knowing how old the pump was, I decided to put my baby moose on it from my 86 6.9, I also kept the 86 injector lines with the pump.
In the proccess of tightening the lines, I cross threaded one of them. I then borrowed a line from the old 89 pump and although it fits, it is bent different and doesnt match up to install the line clamps on.

I thought these lines were the same for all the years but I guess not. Does anyone know where I can buy an 86 injector line? I dont know the cylinder number but if your standing in front of the truck, it's on the right and the third one back. Thanks!

I tell you one thing though, this 89 with the 5 speed, flat scoots now! I need to get a hold of Ryan and see if he'll set the timing for me.

Hello Kenny. All the lines have their number cast into the intake manifold port runner. The cylinder numbers are front to back or from the radiater back. One the passenger side its 1, 3, 5, 7. So on the drivers side its 2, 4, 6, 8. Using the words right side and left side can be confusing. So the line you need is number 6. Only the number 4 and number one lines are differant but only differant on the van or pickup truck applications. We can still use them on differant applications if you know what to do. There is no reason for number 6 to be bent differantly on your engine. Sounds like someone "made" the line fit. Send me your name and shipping address and it will be on its way today.

In my last post kenny I forgot to tell you the line nut is harder than the injecter so the injecter is the thread thats ruined by cross threading but. You can fix it with a knife edge file and some work. Use another line as a test fixture to see if it screws down all the way finger tight. I too have cross threaded an injecter line or two in my day.

I've always been careful not to cross thread but this time I screwed up. I also had to change the injector, the threads on it were trashed.
These are the original injectors to this truck, think I'll be contacting Russ in the near future for a new set.

Kenny. This is my third post. Seems the other two wont come up. Only the number 1 and 4 lines are differant on the trucks and vans but they can be switched if you know what to do. The line your having issues with is number 6. All the cylinders have the number cast in the intake manifold post near the heads. Its 1-3-5-7 on the passenger side radiater to firewall so on the drivers side is 2-4-6-8. The injecters are the soft thread so the line nut usually is not ruined when its cross threaded. Remove the injecter and use a knife edge file to clean up the threads. Use another line to test the cleanup. Sounds like someone bent the line for a reason not needed. I thought there was a small length difference between 6.9 and 7.3 lines due to deeper injector placement on 7.3 for emissions. It may be an urban myth. If there is a small difference I wouldn't want to mix them up as the timing depends on all lines being the exact same length.

This information is ture but... The lines for the later 7.3 engines had the injecters raised out of the precups 60 thousands. So the lines were shortened 60 thous. 1/16th inch equals .625 or 62 and 1/2 thousands. So its hardly enough to make a differance. So any line can fit any enfine unless your dealing with number 1 or 4 on a van or a truck equpited engine. Even then you can fit either on the other engine if you move the rotunda timing fitting that we all hate to deal with on the number one cylinder.

The lines on the driver side of this 89 are not the same design as the lines on my 86, they are shaped different. I dont know what the hell, except to find a number 6 injector line from an 86.
I had to leave the injector line clamps off on that side of the engine, because this other injector line is so much different.

Kenny... It really sounds like someone bent the lines to fit and thats wrong. Take all the lines off your other engine and swap them out on the 7.3 engine. Take pics before you do any of this. Might also mark each line so you know where it goes. Never ever try to run without the line clamps. You surely will break a line from the fuel pulses in it. Thats why the vibration line clamps are on the lines like they are.

Against my better judgement (parts go quick on these in junkyards) the pic a part off of boulder highway in Henderson has a 6.9 (this was about 3 weeks or so ago) in a truck. The injector on the left side #1 was missing, but the rest was intact. All the lines were there also.

I'd like to harvest and store them for myself, but your need is pressing. Good luck, hope it's still there and intact. Still had the pump, injectors (except the one) and hard lines. I suspect it was a cash for clunkers? White spray paint all over the block. Other trucks had the same paint on the engines also, unless it was the typical junkyard ******* matches I've seen?

If I make it out there and it's all still there, let me know if you need it. It's just parts hoarding to me at this point, I'd rather see it help someone in need then rot in my shed. I have vibration dampers and the like on mine, so I don't see anything happening where I need them
