injector leak at body??

hi guys i'm not new to diesels and worked on many idi's at work but i have one at work with an injector leaking around the body where it's threaded into the head i see bubbles, i dont know if it might be the cap leaking or the line so any help i'd greatly appreciate please and thank you

Well is it loose? Did it get cross threaded?

no it wasn't loose and when i re-installed them 2 weeks ago i screwed it all the way into the head with my hand then just tightened it, this is the first it's leaked

Did you use new copper washers when you reinstalled the injectors?

make sure both the copper and the seat at the bottom of the injector bore are free of debris. Bothe sides of the washer have to be clean in order to make a good seal

i had one that once and i just tightened it a little bit more

Why did you remove and then install the injecters... Are the line clamps still on the hard lines.

This will happen if you didn't install new copper washers.

i had them pop tested and checked because there was a bad one in the system i found out that was stuck open, i used new copper on all of them, and the coppers were clean and line clamps are on i plan on pulling it and just making sure nothign was down inside there

Good morning. I bought a truck once with a bunch of little probs that the PO got tired of chasing. Of which, one was a leaking injector ... turns out that whoever had the injectors out last failed to get all of the old copper washers out! Made for a messy hole and a chore getting two washers out!

Injectors should be torqued into the head to 25 foot pounds. Too much, and you will crush the copper washer and deform it. Too little, and it may leak.

Which said tighten to 33 foot pounds. Did i damage the copper washers by tightening to 33 foot pounds?

35 ft lbs is what the factory manual says and what I torqued my injectors to.... no probs so far

Sorry. I do that some times. I should have double checked myself. My memory isn't what it used to be. Which is why I write articles while things are fresh in my mind. I think 30-35 is the allowable range, which is why I wrote 33.
