You should have seen the tourists faces, driving with the head facing up in the back of the truck! priceless, I'm sure some were looking for a trail of blood!
Personally, I couldn't pull the trigger on somthing that can't shoot back.

your tune will change when you hit one and it takes out your front end. If you're lucky that's all the damage that it will do. If you're not so lucky it will get clipped and get flipped over your hood and in through your windshield.

No elk in Monterey or Santa Clara as I recall,

OBTW we both came out without a scratch.

No animals, trucks, or people were harmed in this undertaking.

I guess hitting a horse size critter at any speed would be screwed.

lucky it is stuffed. sorry to remind you of a nightmare that's all too real.

OBTW it was taken with a 7mm cannon (that sounds small to me, 50 cal=1/2"= 12mm, 7mm sounds like 1/4") He must be a good shot!

you're right.
there's no elk around here. but there's plenty of mule deer.-cuss-cuss
i used to live next to a state game refuge and got three deer kills to my name.
two suburban front ends and one buick front. no thru windshield experiences:hail:hail:hail
i can't count how many I've cleaned up though from the towing side.

7mm is .284, 6mm is 1/4", .50 cal is 12.7mm.

Thanks for the clairafication.

Though that sounds like a very small slug to take down such a bib critter!

PS, lots of deer strikes in rural KALIfornia theese days, mostly beemers and *****'s.

If you are using a good quality bullet of proper weight matched to the size of the game, a 7mm is more than enough. Especially in one of the faster cartridges. The .270 winchester is a good elk cartridge with proper bullet placement. I've even heard of using the .243 winchester or the .25-06 for elk or moose. But I would have to say that would be for the more knowledgeable hunter with good marksmanship skills. Using the smaller lighter bullets bullet placement is more crucial. I've gotten a couple with a vehicle myself:eek: Not a good feeling. One of them was in the middle of town too.
