has anyone ever tried putting an IH436 in a truck i have one setting on a pallet in the corner was always gonna save it for a pulling tractor but now that i have an idi i have my wheels turning. it it the same engine that came in a lot of tractors and the guys that pull with their 1066's and others and they dont have a problem getting 400hp it is a smaller block and a 6cyl so i think it would fit easier

Isn't a 436 similar to a 466 with a shorter stroke? or is that closer to the dt360 which would fit a lot better. a 466 is hard to fit

No the 436 is a 7.1litre it has smaller displacement than the 7.3 obviously but I have seen hot farm pulling tractors get 400hp. They drive em there pull them and then drive em back home an use them

400 series IH diesels are basically the same block with different parts stuffed in there that change displacment................. Meaning................. it is DT466 sized.

Jon is putting a DT466 in his IH truck right now.

I'm planning on the same thing when I have time to actually start putting the parts onto a chassis.

I am not talking about a dt engine this one was used over about 20 years in just about all international farm equipment I have a 466 setting there too and they are totally different engines

414, 436, 466 .......... ag 400 sereies...... should have the same block with different crank, rods, pistons to different displacment. I was saying they are similar in size to a DT........ not the same as a DT. The DT's have been used forever too....... since the 70's.

Sorry for the confusion.

Every day I walk by a 1486 with a blown ta and want to do that swap. Other than figuring out what pump to run in a truck it would be no different than a 466 swap. They were used in 1466/86-1586 tractors so there is a ton of them out there. Pretty tough as long as you never lug them down.

I have one out of an old 1460 combine and I just thought it might be a little easier to install than a 466 was just wandering if anyone has done that swap. I am too picky and impatient to build a firewall. Just wanted to know if it had been done and if firewall reconstruction was neccesary

I'm sure you would have to. I'll measure tomorrow but I'm pretty sure they are pretty close to the same length.

They are the same size.

We had a ant eater several years ago. Biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. There wasn't a day that went by that something on it wasn't broke or leaking.
