If you want to get serious about IDI power

250 man hours to machine that 5.9 block........it ain't cheap, but you can have an extreamely strong block made. The article in DP is really cool. It says he makes 1900HP at 5300RPM It just cost $65,000 to built.

I actually looked at having my grandfathers machine shop make me a block from billit stainless years ago, it was gonna cost me over 5k in steel and another for the labor but now I wonder if I could get a 7.3 power choke billet stainless for under 15k. that would probably snap frame rails and would definitly get me arrested.

like every bodyelse said (if i had the moeny) it would be fun to build an idi to contened with the 5.9 *** apart but the croud here seems to lack the funds to support that kinda project but i could be wrong

The question is: WHY?

I could do a lot better things with $65K. WTH You gonna do with a 1900HP engine that You couldn't do with 600HP? It's going to break anything they bolt it to, anyways.

Well this is the whole problem with pulling/racing/competeing or what have you. It all starts with somebody having more time than money, and eventually more money than time. It's an equation I'll never figure out. I'll be 60, and have spent almost my entire life just paying for a house that was $80K originally. Obviously hard work and determination are not enough.

Almost 2000 hp though, that is impressive. For the money though, I'd buy a locomotive. I could get an extra 1000 HP, run it at full throttle all day, and have a hell of a lot more options about where I could run it.

What I don't get is why he would go to all that trouble and expense and use the 5.9 cummins as his platform? Making 2000HP with a DT466 as a starting point is quite a bit "easier" (but not easy) than a 5.9 6BT.

If I had to guess, there are probably cubic inch limits for the class he is pulling in. If a super stocker is indeed in their experience realm, then modding a 466 would probably have been too "easy" to be any fun.

that is very impressive though, if i had that kind of expendable income i would prolly do something like that with an IDI
