In 2004 Pd. 5500 for a 90 SC LB 2WD, another 3100 for a Promar engine, 720 for 6 tires, rebuilt the E4OD 620 for parts. Total 9940.
In 2007 Pd. 4500 for a 92 CC LB 2WD turbo GV O/U, 129K miles, new engine 800 W/75K miles on it. My Avatar.
In 2008 Pd 17500 for a 99.5 PSD W/124K miles. Now has 183K $2700 on 4R100 rebuild new TC Aux oil cooler, my fault for that, bought for pulling a 13K 5er. In Sig.

'85 F250 RCLB T19 4x4, 150,000 on the truck, 50,000-ish on a Dealers Diesel reman, $1700 in 2011. Farm truck; hadn't been on the road in close to 20 years. Significant body rust (cut out, some repaired), but the frame was rock solid thanks to a thick coating of farm dirt. Had a banged up tailgate and bald 285/75s on steelies. About $800 into the wheels and tires, $50 for the camper topper (insulated).

I feel really irritated now after reading this thread. I paid 4200 for mine delivered with plow. 91 with what I assume is 186k miles and a whole bunch of rust.

$1000.00 for current project. pics are the day I bought it prior to towing. Many dollars spent since and it's still not close to driving.

I bought my 94 SCLB 2wd F250 for $1800. It's not fully right but I drove it for 8 months daily with only putting a new FPIL and replacing the tranny fluid/ filter and new tires. Trying to sell it now because my wife seems to think one can have too many trucks.
Replaced that truck with my 95 PSD SCLB 4wd that I now drive. Stole it for $2000. I've put maybe another $2000 into it if you count new 285/75/16 tires. Had to replace fuel lift pump, rebuild the fuel bowl, SMF flywheel/ clutch conversion, both front brake pads and one caliper, and repacked bearings on the front end. Still lots I want to do to it but I drive it daily and it has done everything I've asked it to do.

They wanted $3100 for mine, had silly 16x10 Pacer rims and even worse tires on it, a/c didn't work, radiator leaking, no radio, but ok otherwise. I learned from my experiences with the previous 2 idis I've owned, and planned on a brake job also. To pay for it, I borrowed $4K; bought truck for $2550, bought brakes/ bearings, $1K left. Sold rims for $400. Bought junkyard OEM steelies and new tires; $500 left. Bought Champion rad and Fleetcharge, and traded in OEM rad; $350 left, which got me a pyro, radio and speakers.
A year later, got a reputable shop to do all-new firewall forward A/C (blower already upgraded by some p.o.) which was close to a grand but totally worth it.
So I have about $5000 in her but was able to recoup a lot.

I found mine in the classifieds. It had been listed for less than an hour and I was the third person in line. I had to do some serious sweet talking but I was able to talk the guy into selling it to me.

I paid $5000. Clean 4x4, crew cab, five speed IDI's are very hard to find around here.

This was the day I brought it home over five years ago. Zero rust---needed some TLC though.

1991 F350 N/A E40D SC C&C. $2200
Bought it while my 98.5 Dodge 2500 was down for a new IP.
Added EGT, fuel pressure, temp gauges, electric lift pump, filters.
Replaced starter, A/C compressor, ignition switch, heater core.
Hadn't had it a week, and pulled a (empty) tractor-trailer out of a ditch. Surprised both of us :)
It's no road truck, but it has moved everything I have tied to it.
Including a 40' float with a backhoe and roller.
Needs TLC - return lines, glow plugs, fluid replacement, paint, etc. Stock filter housing has leaks.
Would I buy it again? probably. As my only truck? Nope.

I paid $3100 +fees from A dealer for mine in 2012. It had what looks like 59,500 miles on it. Had all sorts of chrome goodies like side steps, bug guard and a camper. They were asking $4000 for it. I took it for a test drive and pointed out the loose ujoint. I later found out that it has a detroit locker in the back too.

I was not looking for a Diesel. But I looked at a lot of junk trucks with big blocks that were in my $3000 price range. One truck had no oil on the dipstick. When I pointed this out the seller came out with 3 qts of non detergent Chalet brand 30w to put in it. I left with out even test driving it or hearing it run.My requirements were the bigger cab,3/4 ton,4x4 and a stick shift. It just so happens that it was in great shape compared to the trashed trucks I was looking at.

Mine had mileages written on every filter (even if they were fram filters)so I knew someone was keeping track of oil changes and such.

in 1993 I paid $17k for my F450 carrier with 150k on the odo.
in 2004 I paid $3500 for my '92 F350 CC dually 4x2.
the above two are the only turnkey rigs I bought.
most of my other rigs were bought in varying stages of disrepair requiring a fair amount of work. All were purchased at $1k or less.

Traded an 86 460 truck ($1000 invested the total) for a "non running" 92 with 260k miles. I don't have the original pictures of the rolled on black house paint and blue seat in red interior, and no picture would ever give a discription of the smell that it had, but I had it driving the same day I got it home

Paid $2600 from a dealer last summer. What I got was a very well cared for 1992 2wd f-250 idi, regular cab, w/159000 mi. A county owned truck. What county keeps vehicles 22 years? Little rust on rear fenders I repaired myself.
PS- Wife loves it!
