idi ip in junk yard question

Hi guys there is a truck that's been in the local junk yard it has blue sealant at the bottom of the oil fill resivor and the oil fill caps missing was just wondering if it's worth taking off ?? My pumps leaking

I vote to take it off. Save that IP from the crusher.

You never know, it may work and run as it is. If not, you have an IP which can be rebuilt. The last I heard Mel was looking for rebuildable IPs to bolster his stock. Or you could have it rebuilt to keep on hand for that time when you need it.

my injection pump is leaking now I guess my one question is will it eventually go out and not work at all or how do these pumps stop working

guess the question is how much they want for an unknown ip & how long the truck been down?

If they don't want a ton of money for it, get it. It might get you by while your waiting for a pump.

I say buy it if the price is right. What you or I feel is the right price is a matter of what we are willing to pay. Having a spare pump is never a bad thing. Just keep them dry in some covered container or at least wrapped in a plastic bag up off the floor. In all my years watching ebay I feel a new unused pump is really rare. But we are not talking bout a new pump. Contact Mel with the plate part numbers so he can tell you what that pump is. I think the 5013 is the turbo pumps but not really sure any longer. Any idi pump will fit and run ok on any idi engine. Realize the chevy diesel injection pumps look very much like ours but they are very different. First off the spin opposite direction of ours and the throttle arm is on the opposite side of ours.

hey guys just wanted to let you know I did get the injection pump and all of the hard lines with it I think I got a pretty good deal of 55 dollars! Here is a picture

Great decision for that price! Keep as many of them out of the crusher as possible for young guys like me who are just learning to love these things! Lol

the guys that work at the junkyard did not even know what it was lol the one guy said what the f is that? Now my question to you guys the pump that is on my truck now that is leaking should I send this core pump a way to get rebuilt or just hang on to it what happens when the injection pumps go bad will the truck just not start from air getting in the lines?

i would get it rebuilt, deal with the one on your truck the way it is until it comes back
while youre getting the pump rebuilt, score some injectors also. and BAM fuel system is good to go for another 1/4 of a million miles.

Alright sounds good I do have new injectors lines and a lift pump who is best for rebuilding these
