This is in a '91 once diesel F-250, but unsure if original tranny.

Does this look like the IDI bell housing? Friend want's to possibly use it with a 460.

If it's not it's awefully close.

I haven't seen a Ford gas one, but that surely looks like IDI to me.

Where's Calvin when you need him?

I've got a diesel bellhousing beside my right now, and it's doesn't have some of those circular bumpy looking things cast on it. The ribs look different too. Could be a different year or what have you though.

That is a diesel bellhousing ,you can tell by the small dowel holes. You can drill it to accept a 460, I have done it, but it is a pain in the ass. If you want I can send you the tools I made to modify it and I could walk you through the steps. It is not easy but very doable;Sweet
And no you cant do it with the automatics, I know that question will come back sometime.:backoff

i take it you don't bolt up the two top bolts when you do the conversion.
give me a few minutes and I'll measure up the distance between the middle and top bolts.

The top two are so close the bolts go right in because the gassers are smaller.

I have a 91 F350 with a 460 and ZF5. If your buddy wants to trade the diesel for the gasser, I'm up for it.

whew, finally made it in.

I'm actually the friend, so hello all.

I dont have the original diesel, all I have is the tranny, frame, suspension etc.

I'd be happy to swap the tranny with anyone, but I'm in Washington State, and I think shipping would kill us. Appreciate all the info and input from you folks though. Guess I'll have to go have a look around the forums :)
