I found a local guy who has and old school 480 for $100. I want to buy it but the adapter that is with it for the GlowPlug is for a 6.2 GM. Will it work on the 6.9? I thought someone said they both have the same threads. :dunno

Thanks, that is exactly the web site I was looking for. Unfortunately no info about the adapters. I might just buy it and try cause it is worth more than $100 but I really dont want to waste my time if it wont work. He said it was 150 bucks for the adapter it has.

Actually, I just read his email and it doesn't say any specific GM Diesel. Chances are its a 6.2 in 83 though.

I used it on my 1983 Chevy after I replaced the timing chain. I have one that fits the GM engines and had to buy that from snap-on.

GM 4.3, 5.7, 6.2, 6.5 and IH 6.9 & 7.3 use the same basic design glow plugs. The differences are in the connectors. Much of the Snap-On lit was put out just before the 6.9 came onto the scene.

MT160 was the one recommended for the 4.3, 5.7 and 6.9/7.3, the 161 was for the 6.2/6.5, if it will work for the 6.9/7.3 I don't know, but I would imagine it would.

As far as I know the mt161 (black in color) will only fit 6.2 GM. If you look at the manual for the mt1480 on my web site it gives up quite a bit of info that will aslo work on the 489.

Its still a great tool to have... the bad news is that if you buy the MT160 adapter from snap on it will set you back around $225 yikes. But you might get lucky and get one used cheaper than that...or it might also be that he really used it for the 5.7 and it is an MT160 which is what you should be using for a 6.9/7.3

Ahhh, So you are the one with that website I was looking for. You are awesome. THANKS!!! ;Sweet :hail :hail

I just talked to the guy and I am going to buy it. It is the 160 adapter but I am going to take a gamble and see if it works. If not, I guess ill have a meter for sale for the GM guys LOL
