Well today I did my trans swap from the zf in my truck to the one I had picked up from Guy, and then had dropped and broke the damn Slave ear off and had welded.
I previously had popped off one of the PTO covers, drained it, inspected inside with light and checked the magnetic drain plug all of which was quite good no major debris or grit from fine grinds!
So I proceded to prepare the other day, by removing my skid plate and front drive shaft, along with disconnecting my electrical to my transmission and my tcase. I also loosened the cross member bolts and wd40 them and then tightened back up so they would be easy today.
Now ya'll know me enough to know I gone dun took bout oh...I dunno maybe 45 pictures of the overall job so guess I'll do a trans re n re tech and submit it to tech section.
I checked my clutch and get oh not sure but 1/2 -3/4" movement on flywheel DMF stock. it's a velao clutch too. I wanted to replace throw out bearing however it was quite good so I cleaned and lubed the slide portion.
All in all it went quite easy. I never even jacked up the truck. However I"m prone to doing things harder not smarter sometimes.
I did have my trans jack and my friends shop. Job took me bout 4 3/4 hours overall with pics and breaks by my self.
I'm pleased to say that upon initial driving it's a swap worth while, I have THIRD gear again, both loaded going uphill and backloaded going down hill. My old trans had no 3rd gear what so ever!
Guy is ok with me taking a few days to determine it's worthiness and I hope it is well worth it as I am tired of 2nd scream to drive or 4th lugging to drive in town or up moderate hills.
If all good. next is put back front drive shaft and tcase linkage and electrical
So I'm uploading pics as I type and I think I'll ponder a Tech 101 ZF trans swap, or not.
