HX35w off a generator question + pics

Guy says i can buy this for 150. said it was taken off because the cold side seal was leaking oil.no exhaust elbow.
Wodering if i can fab up a v band setup or something for this or should i really have the exhaust elbow?

Worth my money and effort? Looking for some more volume of air than stock idi systems have. Perhaps a sidewinder but havent seen a cheap kit, and i dont mind building custom piping,

I have one pretty close to that, I was under the impression it was a 55, by the serial numbers anyway.
I would say no elbow. It already has a v - band on the outlet. Just build a downpipe.
And the price does seem a little much, but could just look at the going rate for them on Craigslist or the like. Should be the same turbo as the 6bt, if it is the 35.

I would bet that the cold side is smaller than a truck HX. I just got back from the shop I get injectors thru and we just boned out a gennie engine and did some comparing, wheel on this particular unit is about 1/4 inch smaller.

well, frig i got antsy and bought it for 150. Guy wouldnt go lower, and it looked and felt nice in person. I feel no axial play, and very minimal radial play, no touching of the housing anywhere-im sure once the bearings get oil it would be tightened up. It was run on a GM 8.1 gasser generator, so the turbine has no carbon on it.

I think its kind of small though..i think.. has twin scroll T3 inlet flange, exhaust is 2.5" ID V band
Compressor has 46mm outlet, and the inlet is 54mm ID, or 10cm OD..soo smaller than the 12 or 14cm people talk about....

Have yet to look at a compressor map for this exact model, but Im thinking it is too small. What cfm do our 7.3 engines put out at X rpm?


exact assembly number is: 3597508.
holset says its for engines 5-6.5 litres. I seen some threads guys using HX35s, but Im scared mine is a dinky 35 lol


guy sai dit came off a GM 8.1 gasser running at 1800 rpm.

It may not be as bad as you think. If you look at the compressor wheel maps of turbos and what the recommendations are for engines the size of ours... they are huge, however, most of them are for much higher RPM. For these motors you are looking at a range between like 20-35lbs per minute of air to cover the RPM range. That's actually a pretty small turbo.

If i had a map of this exact turbo id know where Im at, but i either suck at google or theyre not as easy to find as i thought.
Holset says an HX35 should push about 52lbs/min.
I know nissan 240 guys like these and are laying down 400 at the wheels. 400 horse is 400 horse, and you need the air to support that.
Im just concerned about my particular compressor housing.
I want that volume but keep pressure below 15 lbs.

also-what is the recommended IC pipe size? 3"?

PS: can i get just a cold side oil seal to fix the leaking into the intake? or do I have to do a whole overhaul and balance?

PPS: Id like to run a 3" downpipe to 4" out the back. turbo has 2.5" V band. Should I mod the plate with a 3" V band or use this and just make a 2.5-3" build in adapter in the downpipe?
Also need to find a split Up pipe.
