How to set selling price

So I'm kicking around the idea of selling my beloved IDI. Now before you all go cussing me, let me explain my reasons:

We just had a baby girl, and will eventually have another child. The supercab is nice, but we'd really like a 4Door so we can take my truck sometimes. Right now, we pile in my wifes 4Runner, or take 2 vehicles since the baby seat won't go in the back of my truck rear-facing.

My truck doesn't have some of the safety features of the newer ones- airbags, 4wheel ABS, etc. My wife wants it to be safe. I argue that 7000 lbs of steel is a good starting point, but shes standing her ground

Its old and rides like an old truck. Creature comforts aren't like the new ones, despite my efforts to make it better. I've done everything I can think of to make this truck ride and drive like a newer rig, but theres only so much you can do with the design.

It's a manual trans. My wife argues that she should be able to drive my truck, and that requires an automatic. Given my choice, I'd buy another manual just to keep her away from it... Most of the new trucks are autos anyhow, and that would make for nicer in-town driving.

So I'm at the point of what to do with my IDI. It's got TONS of upgraded parts, and is about as nice as they come. Doesn't use ANY oil, and is mechanically sound- I'd drive it anywhere tomorrow. You may know it has a year old ATS aurora 2000 turbo, 4" exhaust, and the ATS intercooler installed. I've got leveling springs and airbags, factory ALCOA alloys, and BFG AT's on it. It has a killer Alpine stereo setup with 2 amps, a 12" sub, and iPod integration. It has a Tuffy locking center console with a galaxy CB. It's got a trailer brake controller, and Boost and EGT gauges. I put factory bucket seats from a 95 in it. It has husky floor liners. I've put in new factory headlamp and taillight housings as the sun faded the old ones, as well as a factory new grille. I have the old grill and and LUND winter inserts for the cold weather. I put on Warn hubs in the front. I have all the maintenance records and all the factory parts I removed for upgrades.

Where do I price it? It's a 1992 F250 XLT 4x4 with 110,000 miles on it

sorry to see it come to this. i've found that once they get out of the infant carseats, the supercab actually works out very nicely. but that's something she will have to learn over time.
honestly speaking, I'm looking for another 4x4 supercab, but I'm also waiting out for a cheap deal. there are those out there who don't mind paying full pop for something they want badly, but from my experience that only happens in a tight supply market. The guy who just bought my '86 SC 4x4 just sold his gen 1 Dodge 4x4 for $6700 and was bugging me to buy mime a week after he sold his.
If you're not getting the full court press to sell the truck, price it where you feel you can get back what you put into it but be prepared for the lack of phone activity. Or if you feel like being adventureous, take it out to the rust belt and you just might get what you want for it. when she does really ratchet up the pressure, drop the price then. bells, whistles and electronic gadgets are nice, but from my end of handling wrecks, size and weight always wins.

Your truck sounds pretty nice. I buy and sell a lot, but I am a buzzard and buy low. You rarely see a truck as nice as you make yours out to be. That being said, you possibly can get a little more for it. If I had to take a guess at what you might get, I would say 3-5k. It all really depends on your area, and what someone is willing to pay. Crew cabs bring the big money in my parts, but your truck is so nice midwester like cal said would pay you a premium even though it doesn't have 4 doors. Good luck with the sale either way.

Thats at least a $5000 truck for around here but its really hard to get your money's worth out of a modified vehicle like that. You will be waiting a little while for the right buyer to come along.

ABS a safety feature? there were plenty of those species in the ditch last year when black ice was all over the place.

I would try to look at your local craigslist. Honestly I would set price at $7K. Call me crazy but you have a really nice setup. They will talk you down some if you get an interested buyer, but you compensate by placing the price higher.

If I had the money, I would buy your truck. I think the problem is a lot of folks are hurting for money. So selling will take some time.

That's a sweet ride. It's worth 7K if you can find a buyer. I wouldn't take a dime less than 6K. I spent 4K for mine and feel it was a really good deal. I've put almost $1,000 in repairs since, and still feel it was a good buy, and it's N/A, stock everything on the interior with a vinel bench seat in terrible shape. If I had the money, I'd just come and buy yours and then sell mine. I'm glad that my wife knows that she doesn't have any say in what I drive I'm also glad she made herself learn to drive a stick.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Its not so much that my wife is dictating what I drive as it is me taking advantage of the chance to get a new truck! I was really hoping to get more like 8-9K, but that's not going to happen on a truck this old, regardless of how nice it is.

If the market dictates that it's only worth 4k, I'll just keep it. If I could get 6-7k, I might let it go. All of this is in the beginning stages right now, and we may end up putting it off for a while. I'd like to be able to put a good chunk down on whatever I buy so that the monthly payments are manageable. Even after I decide what to do with my current truck, then I have to decide what to replace it with...

Ford has the new engine next year, Dodge seems to be getting better with the 6.7, and GM has the D-Max. I work for a Toyota dealership, so the Tundra is on the table too. Decisions, decisions...

Truthfully that truck is worth 6-7k because alone the truck would be worth 2-3 in good shape then it has a 2k turbo kit and all the other mods so really its worth 6-7 but money so tight people just wont pay it usaully

I think your truck is as nice as they come in the year you have, but I see PowderChokes like yours for 6-7K in this market, and although the simplicity and dependability of the IDI are wonderful, folks looking to spend more than 5K on a truck are usually looking for something with electronics. Let's face it: one of the beauties of the IDI is their in-expense of both purchase and upkeep.

I would suggest the old adage "Don't put the cart in front of the horse". Get a crew cab when you really need one. I would love to have a crew cab, however, my truck does the job and when I've got to take more than four people, I make somebody else drive. Keep in mind that all the newer trucks with all the amenities will be that much cheaper when you expand your family and really need a bigger better rig.

Just my .02 worth, which probably ain't worth more than .01.

Justin's right- I'm in Albuquerque, NM.

The truck has definitely spent its time in NM. There is a very small rust spot on the bottom rear of the passenger side of the cab, and the clearcoat is peeling on the roof. Both of these blemishes are scheduled to be repaired next week by an excellent body shop here in Albuquerque.

I paid 8000 for it in 2003 when it had 70k miles on it. It was DEAD STOCK and purchased from the dealership where the original owner traded it in. I've done all the work myself, except for body work. I'm an ASE Master L1 certified tech, but I specialize in Toyotas.
