How to guesstimate HP gain

I just got my truck back from the exhaust shop with a new flowmax turbo muffler. It sounds so good Like a diesel powered Harley!

I'm going up the hill to my house- one mile long 7% grade. before I could get to about 60 mph. Now I'm at 70 mph and gaining speed this is new behavior for my truck

I'm wondering what type of horse-power upgrade it would take to feel so much difference in a 4 door dually truck weighing thousands of Lbs.??

What I removed was a factory exhaust pipe & muffler.
I keep thinking I wouldn't feel less than 25 hp gain on a truck this big, my friend said he thought that's too much for a simple change.

what do you think?

My old muffler was plugged with soot, so I felt a "bifference" with it gone.

It sounds like yours was plugged up too.

if you do a little searching you can find rough HP estimates on 1/4 mile times. you can enter in your tire size, gear ratio, vehicle weight and mph info and it gives you a rough HP rating.

I wouldnt say u really gained much hp, but gained back what was lost due to a stock exhaust that was probalby past its experation.

HMMM... that's the best idea yet! I know you are all right- I re-gained HP lost to a plugged muffler. Just wish I knew how much roughly it would take to be so noticed.

Now about that Lead Foot...I know this is going to hurt my fuel mileage for sure!

I would say 20 ft-lbs of torque is "noticable".

You likely gained at least that.

The way they have the slots fixed now that had better be $10 in a quarter machine to have much of a chance

Honestly living 5 miles from Hollywood Casino only means I never go there at all. I leave it to others from out of town to make regular donations

It may have been from the weight loss also..... I have heard many reports that when someone took off a stock muffler it was so heavy they could hardly pick it up..........
