Gary, would a bad seal at the copper washer let combustion past and cause an injector to get stuck like that?
If so, could that be from not cleaning out the injector bore during a replacement?
Yes is the short answer. A loose fitting injecter with the wrong torque is another reason too. These injecters are a precision mechanical item. Too much torque can ruin them too. Reuseing the copper gasket over again will cause a leak too. If you absolutly have to reuse a copper gasket do this. Hest it up till it turns a blue black color. This can be done on the stove top when u no who isn't watching....
Then when its hot drop it in cold water. This is called annealing the copper. It softens it again so it will form to the seats. Now hand rub it on a flat file thats a smooth cut. Just a couple of strokes till you see what it looks like. You want it to be clean of all seat marks on both sides. Now for the seat in the head. Use a dental pick and drag it around the seating area. If it sticks anywhere thats a cut seat and it will need to be cleaned up. The oem tool is called a seat reamer. They are horribly expensive from otc. Something like $300.00 plus last I saw. I have several I got with some great ebay deals over the years. Only one came back to me damaged and that guy is no longer with us... We will leave it just that way for now...
The seat reamer fits into the injecter bore threads. Once it takes a grip on the seat you twist the cutter. Very little cutting actually takes place... Cast iron chips and you wil not see a ribbon of cutting material from the cutter like you see on some metals being cut. I put some grease on the cutter head to collect the chips. They wont hurt the cylinders either if they fall into it. I just don't want any "stuff" in the combustion areas.
