how often to change fuel filters?

I have 2 filters inline. The first is a 12 micron water trap\filter. The other is my stock 6.9 filter. I was changing them at 5k with my oil and oil filter.
This time i went 10k on the fuel filters. I cut them open and they were spotless inside. Basically i threw away 2 good filters.

How long do you guys go on fuel.filters?

Ford says to change them every 15K miles (24K KM) be it normal or sever duty. Few people that I know around here say they change them out every year mostly for piece of mind.

I drain every fill up while pumping. Usually get two drops.

The amount of water directly correlates on change interval. Had a dirty fuel batch make my interval 1k miles but usually I change on jan 1 for redundancy. I do ziploc known good filters and throw them in engine bay for spares if I get a gas station with horrible diesel

Every 30K on trucks that get nothing but dino diesel. WVO truck is muuuuuch more frequently and I carry a spare on each truck.

I really don't change mine unless I change the pump or I see the dash lite come on. So far thats worked well for me. I run only what gets pumped from a station and thats already done thru a huge filter too. I usually only buy from 2 stations around here and don't drive far enough to run both tanks dry. Arco or chevron is about all I use and they have a big turn over on the diesel fuel. One station has a big rig pump so I know they use a lot of diesel. Thats the Arco...

I dont think mine has a light. Cheapest place in town is a fastrip and they are always packed. We only have 2 fuel suppliers here and fastrip is served by chevron. The other supplier is shell . The chevron fuel sure does foam and spit out of the tank,the shell does not but its $.30 a gallon more.

recommended change interval of the 7.3l fuel filters is every 60k miles or every 4 years.whichever comes first.sooner is required if you suspect bad fuel and or the fuel filter light comes on (after you verified it's not a failing lift pump etc.)

the 60k mile/48 month interval is from the diesel owners manual supplement and haynes diesel tech book.
it's too little surprise really if you stop and think how big the fuel filter is.it's about the size of an oil filter for gods sake lol.take a while to plug one of these up,unless your really getting a crap ton of fuel.
likely those of us running the duralift e-pump's with the large stainless screens could go 100k miles between change intervals.........however i always get contaminated fuel long before the miles or years run out and need to change mine around every 20k.diesel fuel around here isn't very good.
