How much oil??

When we got my engine all back together I used the PSD filter so its a total of 11 quarts. After adding the 11 quarts I checked my dipstick and its still on the add... that was about a month ago, we checked it again today and had to add a gallon of oil to get it where it needs to be. Is my dipstick wrong, or what? I did have the tube out but it looks like its back in. Anyway to calibrate this? Would it be more than 11 quarts or is that 11 quarts total in the system?

The oil capacity of our motors is 10quarts. Add the powerstroke filter = 11 quarts. Your problem sounds strange. Any signs of leaks, or oil in other places (e.g. coolent)?

9 quarts in the pan should show full.

Are you checking the oil cold or hot? It expands like crazy that is why you check it after being fully warmed up , then letting it sit for 15 minutes so it can drain down. If you read it cold it will read halfway between the marks if it is full.

You know I completely forgot about having to check it warmed up. It actually does read halfway between the marks...Thanks guys!!

it always took 12 quarts to make my 86 6.9 say full with the PSD filter
