How hot do our DP's get ?

I have a 4" exhaust that I want to install. I was quoted $200 to hang it, which isn't bad but is more than it should.be IMO. I'm looking for a way to mate the 3" dp to 4" exhaust, and I don't want it welded. I was thinking this might work: http://www.hps-siliconehoses.com/hp...pler-silicone-hose-blue-reinforced-4-ply.html

That will melt about three minutes after you start the engine. At that point, the exhaust is prolly 400+ degrees at 40 MPH. Thats only good for 350 max.

Then just get a band clamp or 2 (3" and 4" from the local exhaust shop) and bolt it on, same or less then the silcone and never have to worry about the heat (honestly Id be more worried about debri hitting/clamps breaking)

you have a pyro?
350* is cruising temp on my truck.
best suggestion is to get a 3-4" reducer and a stainless steel exhaust band clamp for the corresponding diameters.

No Pyro, I've been meaning to order one. I figured it probably wouldn't work lol. I was just thinking a rubber type connection would be easier on the dp slip joint.

Spend a few extra and get the band clamps that have the step in them to allow for the two different size pipes where they join. They fit great less apt to fail from vibration and dont cheap out and get a ubolt. or you will never be able to get the mess apart if you need to work on something. With the band clamps, a few good whacks and it comes apart easily

When I had my 4 inch straight pipe fabricated and installed I watched the guy use this tool like reducer. It was driven onto the end of the 4 inch tube reducing it to 3 inch. Then a short nipple of 3 inch tube was welded to that reduced end. I had already purchased a full wrapping bland clamp just to keep from useing the u bolt crap that never allows you to remove the pipes once thats installed. This area where the turbo down pipe ends is kinda tight to work in too so be careful how you mount the clamp to the down pipe and the straight pipe.

They do make 3-4 inch reducing pieces. I got one in my Dynomax 4-inch kit.

I concur on the band clamps. When I discovered them some years back I swear I heard angels singing. Great product!

Yes, the down pipe does get hot. Towing out to the rally and back, my daughter couldn't keep her feet on the carpeted floorboards when I was pulling grades.
