So yesterday I was doing the PM's under the hood when I thought about the squeak noise I hear when I'm opening or closing the hood. I used WD40 on all the joints but it still made the noise. So I looked closely at the springs and watched how they operate. Turns out they have a apring bound condition going on. The flat coils actually rub each other. So some WD40 on the springs and the hood needs to be restrained when you close it or it falls way to fast and slams shut. Kinda neet finding out something new under the hood.

I had to tear the insulation off the hood of my one truck because the springs were so crappy. My own fault I sprayed them

Call me a fanatic, but I always lubricate all my hinges (doors, hood, tailgate etc) at every oil change. Don't forget the latches. I think this is an area that is probably on the top 10 of things most ignored on most vehicles.
