It's yours and you can do whatever you want with it and no one should attack you for that, but most of us as people that love mechanical stuff are really concerned about the results of your tests. I hate to see engines get scattered, not saying you will, from what you tell us that engine is pretty tired, it may die of something else first. Then again I haven't read all your threads so maybe you're trying to see how far you can push it, in that case I'll speak for myself and say you've proven that they can take a lot more than we all thought.

What i have done and learned is that these engines are much stronger than anyone thought they actually suprised me, i was hoping to have to repplace the engine in it and i was going to re-build a good engine and stud it mod some things but leave the RPM alone that way it last forever this time, but honestly i still havent got this engine to blow up i cant even blow a head gasket at 18 psi i have herd of many people blowing them at much less so far i havent had a single problem

18psi at 4000rpms.......


I cab only worry about your turbo. It's one thing to boost 18psi at 3000 rpms, but 4000 rpms means that turbo is having to spin even faster to compensate. I doubt ut will last long at those levels.

Yea that something i been thinking about lately, i dont really want to blow the turbo apart, so i think i might back my fuel off some and let th fuel drop the boost off too around 13psi

Some Hi Performance Cummins guys spin out to 4-5000 rpm on their motors.. tell me they don't have faster turbo rpm?

Could it really hurt the turbo? With mine I worry mostly about trash in the air stream and getting it plenty of clean oil, otherwise I imagine it would last the life of a couple diesel engines, given good oil, clean air, and no coking or bad leaks...what am I missing?

We spin these turbos up around 120,000 rpm.... Thats 2000 rpm per second... Kinda scarey but they are actually not riding on metal but an oil wedge and film. I retired from a large electric generating company. To start the 100 ton steam turbine rotors rolling we would start up a pump called a lift pump. It pumped turbine oil directly under the rotor bearing journel. That allowed it to turn freely. Only 200 lbs of pressure was needed to lift 100 tons... As it spun up to sinc speed the main oil pumps came on and an oil wedge was created that it rolled on... 3600 rpm and all that weight spinning in control... It was amazing to watch it happen. Our tiny little motors spin around 3000 rpm.... Thats 50 rpm per second.... Its still fast but our tiny turbos are really spinning fast....
